The Cincinnati Bengals and Trey Hendrickson have talked again about a contract extension, yet any real progress remains elusive.

Appearing on ESPN this weekend, Jeremy Fowler reported that talks between Hendrickson and the Bengals are “not any further along” despite the lines of communication being back open.

Prior reporting suggested the Bengals and Hendrickson were back talking again. Hendrickson’s appearance in Cincinnati lately backed that idea up.

From the sounds of what Fowler has to say, though, Hendrickson wants to stay away from any year-to-year deals and seeks more long-term insurance. The Bengals, by implication, want a shorter deal that doesn’t put them at big risk for a player his age.

As usual, it feels like Hendrickson and the Bengals will again wrap up this latest bit of contract drama at some point this summer. It seemingly behooves both parties to come together in the middle before training camp gets going.
