In drafting wide receiver Luther Burden III, the Chicago Bears continued to add playmaking options at the skill positions for quarterback Caleb Williams.
The growth and development of Williams under new head coach Ben Johnson will be the key factor in how much success the Bears have in 2025 and beyond, so continuing to add talent in the passing game can only help his progression.
Before selecting Burden, the Bears chose tight end Colston Loveland, making their first two picks to add weapons for Williams while building a dangerous passing game for opponents to scheme for. Speaking to the media after he was drafted, Burden was asked about his new quarterback, and he believes them can help elevate each other.
"Great quarterback," Burden said of Williams. "Great quarterbacks need great receivers."
Burden is eager to get to work with Williams, especially after the pair were nearly college teammates.
"I know a lot about [Caleb]," Burden said. "Me and him were supposed to be teammates before. So the world works in mysterious ways. So, I'm excited to finally unite with him and get to work."
There will be no shortage of options for Williams, which also means there will be little room for excuses if there's any poor play at the quarterback position. The front office has worked with Johnson to rebuild the offensive line and add playmakers, which should help Williams take his play from one of a good quarterback to a great quarterback, and that will raise the play of his playmakers, like Burden, from good to great.
