Just putting his name back up on a recent thread because I'm sure like many we still want him in Cardinal red. If Graves, Sullivan and Coach Mac still want him, they still have the money advantage over the other teams interested. The two drafted WRs are young and should have no affect on his wanting or his ability to be a #1 WR here in Zona.

Funny story by the way. Ran across NEM head on the chat box during the draft, couldn't stay on it for long because it is hard to follow what other teams are doing and trying to chat at the same time but it was worth it. NEM has proven to me once and for all what a ignorant football guy he is.

According to NEMron, Johnson and Boldin are Kasper clones and lack the speed to get deep and through out shared his typical dumb comments. He said they didn't have the speed to get deep. I stated they had the most important trait for a young WR, the size and strength to beat the 5 yard bump and that they had just as much speed as a Jerry Rice. Plaxico Burress also doesn't have what is called ideal speed. Nemnuts reply, none he logged off at that point. NEM loves football (doesn't really understands it) and the Patriots but surely not the Cards and a prolong conversation with him proves it.

In the end, Blake is going to have some good targets before all is said and done, Sully will make sure of it. God bless Mean Joe Green, but his proteges have yet to come through... even with Suggs drafted I would be skeptical.

I personlaay say never mind to Robinson. I would much rather see McAddley playing than Robinson. We need at least one more defensive starter before the season. Hopefully someone good gets cut.

Sorry but Robinson would instantly be the best WR on the roster even following this draft if the guy is healthy!

I am inclined to believe that he is especially with only wanting a one year deal!

If he could be had it would be silly not to go after him!

Why would we agree to a 1-year term so he can pad his stats and move on. I'd rather give the playing time to the young guns. It's not as if we we're headed for the Super Bowl this year.

Good point, Northern.

I think drafting 3 WRs means we have no interest in Robinson anymore - which is why Graves wanted to wait. Robinson was backup plan in case the recievers Sullivan wanted were gone.

Because he is the best most talented WR available.

Because he has a history of doing it in this league.

Because he will instantly be the best WR on the team if signed.

Because if he is healthy and shows it by having a great season you can lock him up and extend him before seasons end showing him you are committed to him.

Because hes only 28 and would have lots of football ahead of him!

It would be silly not to sign this guy if he still wants to come here!

when a player through his agent inisists on a one year deal, I, for one, know that I'm dealing with a "me" guy... and at that point - I say "Thanks but no thanks."!!!

I'll take my chances with the kids....

You have got to be kidding me! The guy has been oft injured and would like to prove himself before signing a long term deal. OF COURSE he is going to be a me player in that sense but that doesn't mean he is not a team player! That is just asinine comment.

Besides why would the Cardinals sign him to a long term deal not knowing if he will be available long term?

Thats not true and this guys case I FAR from blame him!

He is a #1 caliber NFL WR Talent he would be stupid to sign a 3 or four year deal at # 2 or #3 type money.

In fact that would be idiotic! The guy knows he is a #1 WR in this league and all he is asking is a chance to prove it by taking less for one season while he shows the team hes worth more money!

The guy would make this team better and could be restructered laster!

"Asinine" is a comment I'd expect from someone who probably hasn't negotiated anything beyond a car loan, if that.

If you're simply going to insult - don't respond.

First let me say, I want Robinson. I have wanted the Cards to go after him for a long time. I am CERTAIN he will regain his form before those 2 injuries and become a top line WR again.

Now, to the meat of this argument. Even though we don't know for sure Robinson wants a 1 year deal (remember it was reported he would accept a 1 year deal...not necessarily WANTS a 1 year deal), let's assume that he does. A 1 year deal will not be big money since he must prove himself over again. Thus bringing him in for a one year deal does 2 things. First, it gives the Cards an experienced bonafide WR. Second, it gives the young WR corp a vet who they can learn things from. One of Robinson's attributes is he is a good lockerroom guy and I think he would take these youngsters under his wing.

Now, given the fact the Cards drafted all these WRs (and traded for one) maybe a one year deal is perfect for them. Robinson can come in for a decent price. Have a good year and re-enter the FA market next year (which by no means precludes him from resigning here). By this time all these youngsters will have had another year (or first year) under their belts and they will be ready to step up.

NorthernCards, argument does have merit and begs a question: What are the realistic expectations for the Cards this year?

Are they a playoff team? Or are they going to have a losing record? It appears now that a losing record is likely with the current roster (things could easily change as we go). The defense is marginally better but I fail to see how the Cards will be able to stop the run again this year.

Thus, maybe the Cards simply say, yes playoffs are the goal but realistically we are not going so let's get these young WRs out there and they will get OJT playing the game. That is the best way for them to learn and we shouldn't have Robinson taking snaps away from them.

Again...to me you sign Robinson. The upside to signing him is alot better than the downside to not signing him.

We'll have:

Robinson
Johnson
Boldin
McAddley
Gilmore
New Guy from Detroit (Foster?)

I can live with that. Boldin is a stud. I'm psyched with both receiver picks actually.

section 11: if we end up with this combination (very possible)..kasper had a short career in az. I would not be shocked if robinson fades off into the sunset as far as being a cardinal..we shall see..

I'd throw Kasper into the mix. (He's a good player? Why is he continually hitting the Trailways depot? Is there a prejudice against albinos?) Inevitably, there will be one or two injuries. The more the merrier in camp - and may the 5 or 6 best dudes win.

So am I. Really wanted Bryant Johnson and Boldin could be the best player from our draft. He could be an absolute steal at 56.

Hayes is another guy I like a lot too.

Tell me more about Johnson I'm having a hard time understanding why a guy with his measurables and 40 time had only 10 TD catches in his career. The scouts say he drops too many balls and isn't a great deep threat but it sure seems like he should be better than he was, strictly a function of Penn State's offense and QB?

Stout, you're the Penn State guy why didn't he put up bigger numbers in Happy Valley?

C'mon Russ....it's Penn State.

They rushed for over 2800 yards, but threw for only 2400 yards.

What really impresses me the most about Johnson is his 19 yard average.

Johnson's td numbers are low because PSU rushed for 36 tds.

I understand that but here's a kid with 110 career catches and only 10 TD's. Seems to me a pretty low ratio for a guy averaging close to 20 YPC.

Were the QB's that bad? I'm genuinely not knocking him it's the first thing that jumped off the page, great YPC but very low TD's makes me wonder how?

It looks to me like he is used as more of a move the chains type of receiver, and that PSU tries to pound it in when they get inside the 20 (evinced by their 36 rushing tds).

Joe Pa, from what I've seen, is a dinosaur as far as offense is concerned, and he doesn't seem to be the type to throw the ball into the endzone much.

I'm not Stout but I do watch Penn State football. Larry Johnson scored 23 touchdowns, three of which, were receiving touchdowns. Larry was the big threat that most teams couldn't stop. The only real knock on Bryant Johnson is that he is supposed to be a little slow but I don't see it as a problem. Here is another eval on Bryant if it will help Russ:

Name: Bryant Johnson

Position: Wide Receiver

College: Penn State University

Class: Senior

Height: 6'2

Weight: 210 pounds

40-Yard Dash: 4.57

NFL Comparison: Jake Reed

My Analysis:

Bryant Johnson combines great size with decent speed and should make a good possession receiver in the NFL. At 6'2 and 210 pounds, he does a good job of using his size to shield defenders from the ball and can outleap smaller defenders on jump balls. Additionally, Bryant makes good adjustments to poorly thrown passes and gets position so the cornerback can't make a play on the ball. He usually runs good routes and is a powerful runner after the catch. While Johnson won't represent a consistent deep threat against pro defensive backs, he plays faster than his listed 4.57 time in the 40-yard dash. His longer strides may hurt him when running the 40, but Bryant is deceptively fast on the field and can make big plays from time to time. Johnson is also a special teams contributor, serving as Penn State's punt returner this season. During the 2001 season, he was underused in the Penn State run-first offense and caught just 51 passes for 866 yards and 3 touchdowns. If early season games are any indication, the Nittany Lions have decided to open up the offense and Johnson's numbers should improve drastically. Bryant Johnson's draft position will be determined largely by his 40 time in pre-draft workouts. If he runs a 4.57, he will likely fall to day two and should prove to be a steal. If he runs closer to a 4.5, Johnson could rise up draft boards and be a day one pick. His size and powerful run after catch ability would fit particularly well with a team that runs the prevalent West Coast Offense.

Just wondereing how many of you saw one game Marcus Robinson played last season? The guy had one great year but unfortunately that was 4 years ago. He did have great skills, but he doesn't anymore. The Bears let him go because he made too much money but also because they don't think he is the same guy he was 4 years ago.

Unfortunately I have the luxury of having to endure 16 Bear games a season (live in central Illinois) and Marcus Robinson was not even a marginal player the last 4 seasons. He is being talked up on this board for what he used to be (1999) but the guy is broken down and hasn't done squat in 4 years (last year included).

I don't think he is a good investment.
