The game lasts for 60 minutes and 4 quarters. The last TD march by the Whiners put the game out of reach. If our D had gotten a stop, that final drive by the Cards and FG would have been a winner. Be sure to watch the full game and not just midway through the 3rd quarter.
Yeah we never led and never threatened to score to make them nervous.

But that isn’t the fault of the Offense.

A game that’s 23-20 or even 23-13 early in the fourth quarter is not garbage time.
It’s not garbage time if we have the ball. But we don’t. We were basically always down two scores when we got the ball back.

Until shown otherwise, that’s garbage time to me, because it means the opponent is playing against the clock, not against the Arizona Cardinals.

That doesn’t mean our offense is butt; it’s never easy to score 30 points in the NFL. But it’s hard to make a serious argument that we were truly competitive against one of the top 3-4 teams in the conference.

You are making up a definition of 'garbage time' that is new to me (and the rest of the NFL world). For an O and/or a QB to get some garbage time stats they have to have the ball.

'Garbage time' refers to the late portion of a game when one team has an insurmountable lead, prompting defenses to relax, offenses to pass heavily, and coaches to substitute starters with backups."

Nothing about the end of the SF game comes close to the accepted definition of 'Garbage Time.' The SF D never relaxed on the Cards, they did not have an insurmountable lead, and the D coach never substituted for the starters---if anything, some dinged-up SF D starters got back on the field to stop the Cards. The Cards did not substitute backups for their starters. We did go pass heavy with our plays---but that is what every O does when they are down by a SURMONUNTABLE lead and the clock is winding down. Those late passing yards and that FG were not garbage time stats, those were stats the Card's O earned by continuing to compete.

Here's the source for the definition and logic of 'Garbage Time' that I am using.

A good definition used by PFF is explained here since 'real' garbage time stats do matter for evaluation

I'd like to read your definition. I suspect this is just another issue that you will walk away from by selecting a laughing emoji as your comment to this post.

In their preview of a couple of this weekend's games, Robert Mays and Derrik Klassen of TAFS spend a little time talking about the 49ers - Cards game. Here's the lightly edited transcript from that segment; what made it jump out to me was Mays' opinion that "I thought that the Cardinals game plan last week against them was really good and really interesting."
Mays: I wanted to mostly focus on the Niners offense against the Broncos defense in this game. I think that's the more interesting single matchup and then just to talk about what the 9er's offense has done so far this year. I tweeted this stat out earlier today - you can mention a million of them for the 9ers. The 9ers have created a first down on like 54 1/2% of their non play-action passes this year. The team that's in second place is the Bills. They're at 41%. The gap between the Niners and the Bills at one and two is bigger than the gap between the Bills and Titans in 22nd place.

Klassen: That's crazy. You are like a full like standard deviation better than everybody else.

Mays: It's been absolutely ridiculous. I actually I went back and I watched, and we can talk about some of the specifics of it. I thought that the Cardinals game plan last week against them was really good and really interesting. The Cardinals last week per NextGen played less single high against the 9ers than any team has played in the last five years. And what happened is that they did a great job of taking away some of those middle of the field chunks that the Niners really like to seek out.

The first big hit that Mike Evans took, they're trying to throw an in-breaker to Mike Evans and that backside safety in quarters is just sitting on it waiting for it. And so they played a ton of quarters, a ton of cover six, a ton of cloud, and they're like, "We are not going to let you get these chunks down the field. We know that's what you want to do." And so the Niners passing game in the first half had more fits and starts than normal.

So they come out in the second half, and they're just like, "All right, fine. If you want to do this, we're going to run the ball down your throat. And if you want to sit in quarters and leave the linebackers in underneath coverage a little bit vulnerable, we have George Kittle and Kyle Shanahan and Brock Purdy."

[...] You just felt over the course of that game how based on the coaching, based on the personnel, whatever avenue you force them down offensively, they're going to be comfortable exploring that avenue and living that way. And there just aren't that many offenses in the league that to me feel that flexible in any given moment. I it might be the most flexible a Kyle Shanahan offense has ever felt.

This thread has become garbage time.
Also I wish the ignore feature also blocked quoted responses to who I have on ignore. 602 reasons I have a person on ignore.
Harry started this thread. You have a choice to enter the discussion or not. The best way to block anyone on this thread is to not open the thread. What sympathy or support do you hope to collect by labeling all the comments by forum members who participate here as 'garbage time?' If that is your opinion, stay out of the dump.

You need to get a restraining order against the person(s) standing over your shoulder and making you read the quoted responses from people you have on ignore. Really? Are you that entitled???

Plenty of other topics or, better yet, start your own by posting some content to generate comments.

(Edit: I had 602 and not Harry as starting the thread and corrected it in my Edit. 602 has been a frequent contributor (if that is even the right description).

Nothing says checkdowns and moving the ball between the 20s like this stat and not talking about touchdowns.

Man, when you dislike a QB you really dislike that QB.

However, when you like a QB you REALLY REALLY REALLY like that QB.

Bill always said you are what your record says you are. What's he think about 2-13?

He's typically playing on mediocre teams at best or teams in transition. He's a mediocre QB. Unless you think he held back any superstar teams he's played on by being bad. You think the 2025 Cardinals after week 5 were a top 20 talent team? Tough to argue they were even top 30.
