J.R. Richard passed away today.

At 6'8" with a 100 mph fastball, Richard was probably the most intimidating pitcher I saw pitch (I barely caught the tail end of Bob Gibson's career). And this is saying a lot considering he was on the same pitching staff in Houston as Nolan Ryan.

Richard's career was cut short in 1980 when he suffered a stroke during the season (he was 10-4 with a 1.90 ERA and an All-Star appearance that summer) and was possibly on track for a Hall of Fame career.
