ASU becoming an AAU school is indeed a big deal and it makes me very happy. It bothered me that UW, UO, Arizona and Utah (not to mention Cal and Stanford) were AAU, while ASU was not. I think that ASU's size and related admissions policies were a technical problem in the past.

Is there something wrong with a "high school diploma and a pulse" admissions?

I think that the next time that the B1G "vets" possible additions (might be years from now), ASU with its AAU accreditation, medical school, etc. will be in the mix. That assumes that the athletic program itself is where it needs to be.
