When I was in college I kept getting called to my tiny town/county in NY. They were real persistent but I would never show up.

I was in a different state and no way I could manage traveling to get there

Out here I've gotten a few notices, called in once for a trial in the city court. Was selected to the jury and then elected as the foreman - 2 day trial for shoplifting - we found not guilty

Was an interesting experience and glad I was able to do it

I'm not racist, but I am an insurance underwriter who specializes in construction companies and has had NV in my territory, so I know the absolute crap show that is CD up there ...... I would bring obvious bias so take that judge

Chapter 40 (Nevada's construction defect laws) were so badly drafted (before the latest amendment) that it was almost guaranteed that the Plaintiff would win a CD case and recover attorneys' fees and costs. Now that it's been amended, it's better.

Case could go to Wednesday and I fly out of the country Tuesday night so I was dismissed.

I've easily rescheduled more than once in California. In fact, a few times they let me choose when I would be called. I just choose the week of a holiday and I never get called.

I always hoped I'd end up with him in arbitration or mediation. Hasn't happened yet. I have been in front of his daughter, who seems ok for a judge.

I've only had to go once. Was happy about it, lol. Drove down to Chandler. Did a bunch of paperwork while I waited to be called in. Got called in. Was a DUI case. Got asked some questions.

Lawyer: Anyone in your family in law enforcement?
Me: Yes. My uncle/godfather was a New Jersey State Trooper.
Lawyer: Do you believe police officers over other people?
    Me: Yes, usually.
Lawyer: Beat it, lady. I'm trying to get my client off on DUI.

Okay, so he didn't really say that last part, but I know it's what he was thinking. Was finished by lunchtime. Walked over to San Tan brewery and had a nice lunch. Got paid for the day. Win win.

Been called in to jury duty a few times, but only made it into a courtroom jury selection process one time.

    Murder trial.

    Was eliminated for many reasons:

Q: Any friends or family in law enforcement?
A: Yes. First cousin. Phoenix PD. Many other friends.

Q: Related to anyone who was murdered?
A: Yes, my uncle. Shot in the chest by a meth head.

Q: If someone refuses to testify under oath would you feel they have something to hide?
A: Absolutely. (One of two people in the room who felt this way)

Been called in once. Made it to consideration for the pool, but was cut due to close association with Mesa Police Department.

    It was a murder trial.

I got called not too long ago and didn't get to my turn and was sent home. It was a double murder, happened four years ago. The kid was 21 and defending himself, Murder one. While he was attempting to help burglarize a house, the guy he was with had a gun and shot two people. Here were the two questions the kid was asking...

"Will you hold it against me that I am 21 and defending myself?"

    and

"Will you think I am a Mexican because my last name is Lopez (not his real last name)?" The kid is black.

It was sad to watch, how dumb this kid was. I feel like he's so incompetent he will wind up with a death sentence.

I don’t think you get it, LVG. BRR is saying he doesn’t want to do his part as a member of our society where we all agree to undertake these ver rare hardships.

You’re lucky. I’ve always wanted to. Been kicked out as soon as they find out I’m an attorney.

Me too. I get it might be an inconvenience and even a hardship for some, but man y’all can’t complain about our system and try to get out of it at every turn at the same time. Frankly I think it’s shameful.

I get it. I’m just at the point where if someone doesn’t want to sit on a jury, I don’t want to force them.

And FWIW, I think jury pay should be set at the juror’s wage. Losing party reimburses the court.

My favorite unlikely juror story is still how our state Supreme Court Chief Justice got on a jury. He even wrote a few articles about it.

It’s both incredibly satisfying and, as a lawyer, terrifying.
