Left-handed pitcher Eduardo Rodriguez is moving closer to a return from the 15-day disabled list after his outing on Friday night, May 30 in the Arizona Complex League.
Rodriguez threw 73 pitches over 4⅔ innings, and his velocity reached what the Diamondbacks were hoping to see, manager Torey Lovullo said prior to the team's game against the Washington Nationals on Saturday, May 31 at Chase Field.
There was no word on when Rodriguez would be taken off the injured list or when he'd next pitch. If Rodriguez is not activated in the days ahead, right-hander Ryne Nelson is in line to get another start next week.
Left-handed reliever A.J. Puk is throwing out to 90 feet, Lovullo said. He's been on the 60-day injured list with left elbow inflammation since May 1.
Left fielder Lourdes Gurriel entered Saturday 7-for-15 on the team's current homestand, but was not in the lineup against the Nationals. Lovullo had planned to give him a day off this weekend.
Gurriel was limping in Friday's game but Lovullo was told by medical staff that it was normal fatigue and Gurriel was fine. Randal Grichuk got the start in left field on Saturday.
