So if you watched the game tonight, you saw Gallen constantly throwing outside the strike zone and that worked until the 6th. Then with 1 out, Torey intentionally loads the bases and Gallen just avoids the strike zone for 4/5 pitches until it was 3-2 and you HAVE to throw a strike with 1 out and the bases loaded up 1 and he throws the same knuckle curve he has thrown all game outside the strike zone.

That ties the game and then everything unravels.

Looks like our beloved Arizona Sports Fan Forum site has been crashing like the DBacks. If the DBacks get swept by the Cardinals this weekend and fall under .500, I hope that Hazen does the right thing for the team and removes Lovullo. Being under .500 in late May means the NL West title is probably out of reach - particularly since the DBacks are barely winning 1 game out of 3 in recent series. Very disappointing given the talent Hazen put together this year to try and get back to the playoffs.

And Lovullo leaves Kelly in even though it's obvious he's starting to run out of gas.

Result - a 3-1 St. Louis lead.

He does that a lot.

He did it last night. He’s a moron
In his defense, the bullpen has been abysmal, so his conundrum is pitching a worn down Kelly, or some schmuck who you can’t trust with any lead

Very disappointing series loss and probably a sweep by the Cardinals tomorrow. Cardinals are in a rebuilding mode this year but are still manhandling the DBacks because Lovullo just doesn't know what to do in game. Analytics may be the thing before and after the game, but not in-game.

He legit barely uses analytics. He uses very traditional right / left matchups ignoring things like some players excel in those situations.

He also constructs his lineups based on feel and does his bullpen work by "riding the hot hand"

All of this worked perfectly when we went to the world series. He hit every odd note. I won't deny it.

Also Hazen loves him. He is never getting fired unless Hazen is in danger.

My hope was the new pitching coach would bring a more analytical edge but so far it's rough

Welp...this year, Lovullo's lineup construction, matchups, and bullpen management is for sh**. I guess Hazen will continue to love him even if they lose 90-100 games this year (almost Rockies bad). Lovullo managerial record is well under .500 - so there's that.

We will finish around 86 wins.

I am getting legit concerned about Lawlar's development.
He needs to be sent back down to get some regular play. Giving him sporadic play time every 3 days or so isn't good for him. He probably never should have even been called up given how little playing time he was going to get. Let him stay developing in AAA until we have a need and an opening for him.

I haven't been a fire Lovullo guy but I'm starting to become one. At this point I'd give him until the All-Star break to get things going and make the move during it if things haven't improved.

Right now I'd like to see Hazen make a trade for bullpen help and probably replace the pitching coach. What he's preaching isn't working at all. Anyone have a good closer that needs a starter that we could trade Gallen for? There's no way we should resign him for what he wants so let's see if we can get our biggest need.

They should have made the decision in spring training what to do when they were ready to bring him up -

- Play him at second and move Marte to CF
- Play him at 3B, play Suarez at 1B and make Naylor the DH

They apparently weren't ready to commit themselves, although it seems likely he'll be playing 3B next year unless Suarez re-signs.

St. Louis has lost 6 games the entire month of May, two of which came on May 1st and May 2nd. In other words, they have been the hottest team in MLB for virtually a month now.
