You could probably swing a Thomas / Robert trade since Alek grew up in the White Sox club house but he has three more years of team control and is making 793k.

Meanwhile Robert is making 40 million the next two years and has nearly a full .1 OPS worse than Thomas this year. He's two years from being a MVP candidate so that's how you justify it but it's a lot this year

So it's like Thomas / Suarez vs Robert. Give me Thomas / Suarez.

The bad teams with CF that would want Alek Thomas.

Orioles and Cedric Mullins on a 1 year rental. He's basically Alek Thomas ceiling. Great glove gets on base but he is a rental.

Cleveland - Nolan Jones is a negative war player with a .625 OPs

Oakland - Denzel Clark. Woof a worse glove and a sub .600 ops.

Nationals Robert Hassell and his .497 OPS

Pirates - Alexander Canario and his .621 OPS and a worse glove.

Rockies - Brenton Doyle was great last year but this year has a .591 OPS despite playing in Colorado and is 27.

Thats not getting into the good teams.

Brandon Marsh has a slightly better bat for the Phillies but sucks at CF

The Mets are trotting out Tyrone Taylor and his .570 OPS

I seriously have no idea how best to deal with Thomas... and who knows, perhaps the front office doesn't even have Thomas on their main list of players to contend with. I go back to what I said recently, which is that I'd LOVE to see Thomas perform better at the plate. I like the guy... a lot. But I can't shake the feeling that, this franchise will never be able to field a team built in a way that overcome a starting CF being so putrid at the plate. Whether it's purely a matter of team payroll, and/or the inability to possess enough quality depth to overcome the inevitable injuries that hit all teams, Thomas' inability to be even a mediocre producer at the plate is a hole that, along with all of the other shortcomings, this franchise will never be able to get over and will never reach the pinnacle of the game - the WS run notwithstanding...

Pfaadt pitching to contact and not nibbling for strike outs....low and behold, he goes 8 innings with 99 pitches. Either someone got through to Kaplan, or Kaplan is finally getting through to the staff. Kelly pitched similarly last night.

I'm also thinking McCann is really impacting how games are being called.

Solid effort tonight across the board - pitching, hitting, defense...and Ginkel lowered his ERA to 8.57. Heck, Pfaadt pitched so well that he might have improved his trade value - just like Gallen and Kelly. DBacks have a chance to get back to .500 and win this road series tomorrow. If not, then it's a 4 game split - also not bad.

Pfaadt is on one of the best contracts in baseball. Why would you trade him? He's under team control for 7 freaking years and his salary is under the qualifying offer until 2031. He would have to mega suck to not be an extreme value.

I don’t think Suarez was intentionally hit… but I’m certain Torey is looking for opportunities to create a spark and light a fire in this team. Placing a chip on shoulders is a tried and true managerial move. We’ll see if this tactic works out for Torey and the team.

My instincts are that Torey, like most respected managers, isn't taken the "blow-up out of the blue" approach, which catches players off-guard and can give the impression of a manager who has reached the desperation and out of control stage. Rather, I imagine Torey has been slowly ramping up his angst about the bean-balls over the past 30 days, signaling to his players that what is happening is wrong and won't be tolerated and waiting for the right time, the right situation - a divisional game vs the team they need to chase down for example - to take his angst to the next level.

I've seen many a great manager apply this philosophy, which serves to strengthen the trust from the players while also rallying the full team (players and coaches) more tightly around a cause. Disclaimer: Not at all suggesting Torey is a "great" manager and of course, time will tell over the coming weeks, if his tactics have the desired impact.
