Hitting last means less opportunities. Its frankly stupid i have to explain why a top 6 hitter shouldn't hit last.
LOL...

While you can certainly make the case that a "top 6 hitter" should be batting elsewhere in the lineup, there is very sound reasoning as to why a guy like Perdomo, who is 6th in all of MLB in OBP, bats 9th. Such as:
  • Maximizing Plate Appearances:
Batting a good hitter ninth allows them to get on base more frequently, potentially setting up scoring opportunities for the top of the order.

  • Spark and Momentum:
The ninth hitter can provide a spark with a hit or walk, putting runners on base for the strong hitters in the top of the order.

  • "Second Leadoff" Strategy:
The ninth spot is sometimes seen as a second leadoff position, where a player with leadoff-type skills can create a second wave of offense.

  • Putting your best hitter right behind your highest OBP guy gives him a better chance of driving him in. Perdomo is our best OBP guy and bats in front of Marte and Carroll.

Unfortunately, none of this matters when the DBacks continue to lose series that they should win - snatching defeat from the jaws of victory (see this LA Dodgers series thread).

My dude, these are the PAs on average by batting order in a season.

  • 1st: 750.42
  • 2nd: 733.11
  • 3rd: 714.13
  • 4th: 698.04
  • 5th: 681.07
  • 6th: 664.09
  • 7th: 645.56
  • 8th: 628.47
  • 9th: 608.05
Batting 9th is nearly 20% fewer opportunities than batting first. Batting 9th means you get 10% fewer opportunities to hit than than the 6th hitter.

Everything AI told you up top is applicable to hitting 1st or 2nd with 20% more production over the course of the season

Cool...and yet there remains a more than solid case for Perdomo batting 9th. The Dbacks are 3rd in the NL in runs scored. There is no guarantee batting Perdomo higher in the lineup would produce more runs scored.

yeah the offense is not the issue. Its the bullpen. Didn't we set the record already for losing after scoring 10+ runs in multiple game this year

If everyone in the lineup had the same OBP percentage then yes, your prior arguments would have some merit

But they absolutely don't. Why on earth would you want dudes getting on base 1/4 of the time less than Perdomo getting more plate appearances?

Your Torey Honking has made you ignore basic math.

Question: Do you think Perdomo sees different/better pitches batting 9th, than he would batting higher in the order?

And this is before today's 3 for 4 outing batting 2nd. With his OBP, he really needs to be hitting up in the order.

He’s got 46 more PA’s batting second vs batting 9th, yet only 3 more runs scored…
He scores once every 8 PA batting second, vs once every 6 PA batting 9th.
Seems he’s scoring more often batting 9th, no?
