Now that is what I call extreme optimism. After the game, "things will be looking up" as the DBacks try to crawl back closer to .500, or the DBacks will simply be the team that helped the Deds get back to .500. Mediocrity reigns supreme in this series.

MLB is engineered for parity… Realistically, teams should have 28-30 active players on the roster at all times. Just too many injuries for a 26-man roster. The Sept increase to 28 is too late and too little. And if you make the post season, it’s back down to 26.

Anyway, I’ve been saying this for 3 years now, our outfield is simply not good enough. Thomas and Gurriel are nowhere consistent enough and are entirely unreliable. They are hurting the team big time.

And today again shows why Thomas plays

Not counting today's game, DBacks are 6-12 vs the NL Central. No wonder the Deds are tearing them a new one this weekend - like the Cardinals did a couple of weeks ago.

6.2 innings, 4 ER. That's pretty much your Zac Gallen standard this year.

Yup. It's time to start breaking this core up. No need to keep them together just because they got hot a couple Octobers ago. They've been pretty mediocre outside of a stretch in 2023. I'm honestly hoping the Dbacks sell players like Gurriel, Suarez and Naylor this deadline and start getting more prospects for the future to build around the guys locked up long term.

Add Thomas to that list. Yes, he’s a good defender, but this team desperately needs more reliable and consistent bats.

Their lineup is pretty strong everywgere except left and center. I think they need to make either Marte or Lawler the CF, and then try to find a solution for LF somewhere.

The pitching staff is the real mess however.

What just happened is exactly thy Torey needs to be crap canned. Once again he has a reliever ready...starter has over 90 over 90 pitches and walks a batter...Instead of bringing in the relieve, Torey let's the starter take one more batter...and the HR happens. It's like groundhog day watching Torey manage the bullpen. Just absolute garbage decisions being made on a daily basis.

Thomas would be fine as the 4th outfielder because of his defense, but going into the season with McCarthy and Thomas as the CF plan was a mistake.

Also, who was th last backup catcher that the Diamondbacks have had who was even an everage hitter? I'm not counting Del Castillo from last year since he was 4th string.

There was two outs and McClain is a righty. Gallen is a top tier pitcher (well, sometimes). Torey made the appropriate call. Once again, Gallen failed to deliver…

Beeks is nails vs righties. Gallens balls vs strikes was not good today and he was tired. Torey appeased his former ace and failed again.

And two of those earned runs came when Tori left him in too long

Before that, he was pitching in a level that most teams would win

Marte doesn’t wanna place centerfield and it wore him out.

And what makes you think Lawler could hit better and be a better defender than Thomas?

We are 4th in the majors in scoring runs. If we had decent pitching we would be fine. And our defense has costs us in many games. We need better pitching and defense. I’m going with Thomas, he is our best defensive player. . JMHO.
