With the signing of outside linebacker Josh Sweat this offseason, Zaven Collins has been a little bit forgotten. Some publications have tried to shuttle him off the Arizona Cardinals' roster in trade speculation.
However, Collins, entering his fifth season, still figures as a major part of the Cardinals and their defensive plans.
General manager Monti Ossenfort, appearing on Arizona Sports 98.7 FM on Wednesday, reaffirmed how he feels about the former No. 16 overall pick.
"I love Zaven," Ossenfort said.
He expects "big things" from Collins in 2025. "Zaven's been a huge part of what we've done defensively the last two year," he said. "He's going to continue to be."
Collins is coming off his second season playing as an edge defender. He led the team with five sacks and added 57 tackles, seven tackles for loss and two forced fumbles.
Ossenfort raved about Collins' versatility.
"We went through the position switch with him, and he's really settled into that," he said. "Really looking forward the way he can play three phases. He rushes the passer. He sets the edge. He drops in coverage. It's hard to find. It's hard to find a guy that big that can do that many things."
On top of that, he is great in the locker room as a teammate and a leader.
