The wait is over for Arizona State baseball.
After missing a program-record three consecutive NCAA baseball tournament appearances, the Sun Devils (35-22, 18-12 in Big 12) are back in the tournament.
They will be joined by the University of Arizona.
The Sun Devils found out on May 26 that they’ll be headed to Los Angeles on May 30 to face UC Irvine (41-15) in the first round of the four-team, double-elimination regional. Game times will be released shortly.
The No. 5 seed ASU was stunned by No. 12 seed BYU on the first day of the Big 12 Baseball Tournament, losing 2-0.
However, the season is not done.
This year’s tournament appearance marks the first under head coach Willie Bloomquist’s four-year tenure. Given ASU’s rich history in baseball, Bloomquist will likely be observed closely during the NCAA tournament.
The loss in the Big 12 tourney and Oklahoma State sweeping ASU to finish the regular season nearly hurt ASU’s chances.
The Arizona Wildcats solidified a fifth consecutive NCAA baseball tourney appearance after winning the Big 12 Championship on Saturday, May 24.
No. 4 seed Arizona stunned No. 3 seed TCU with a late rally to win 2-1 and claim the first Big 12 title in program history.
