Go SUNS Go
I was curious to see where certain suns players ranked so far this season in the NBA. WOW. Pretty impressive.
Lets start with Amare. He has a top 20 NBA ranking in 7 statistical categories:
Ranks 3rd in offensive rebounds per game
Ranks 3rd in total offensive rebounds
Ranks 10th in total rebounds
Ranks 10th in rebounds per game
Ranks 13th in double doubles
Ranks 16th in defensive rebounds
Ranks 20th in total free throws attempted
These are not among rookies but among the entire NBA. Simply amazing.
Now for Marbury. He ranks top 20 in 9 major statistical categories.
Ranks 3rd in Assists per game
Ranks 3rd in total assists
Ranks 7th in points per game
Ranks 7th in field goals made
Ranks 8th in free throw attempts
Ranks 9th in minutes played
Ranks 10th in minutes per game
Ranks 18th in total free throws made
Ranks 20th in double doubles
Not bad at all.
Now for Marion. He ranks top 20 in an incredible 15 categories.
Ranks 4th in minutes per game
Ranks 5th in total steals
Ranks 6th in steals per game
Ranks 6th in total minutes played
Ranks 8th in total defensive rebounds
Ranks 9th in double doubles
Ranks 9th in rebounds per game
Ranks 10th in defensive rebounds per game
Ranks 11th in total rebounds
Ranks 13th in field goals made
Ranks 13th in 3 point field goals made
Ranks 14th in total points
Ranks 17th in offensive rebounds per game
Ranks 18th in points per game
Ranks 18th in total offensive rebounds
Very nice. What's even better is that all 3 players are in the top 20 for double doubles.
On a side note can anyone ever remember a time when a player didn't at least lead the league with 9 or more assists per game? This year might be that year. Gary Payton leads with a measly 8.7 assists per game. Pathetic for the lead.
Want to see the freakiest statistics ever? I went to NBA.com to look at some of the all time stat leaders. Check out the ALL Time career NBA 3 point field goal % leaders. 5 of the top 8 and 6 of the top 12 played for the SUNS:
#1 Steve Kerr
#4 Tim Legler
#6 Steve Nash
#7 Wesley Person
#8 Pat Garrity
#12 Jeff Hornacek
I thought this was a pretty amazing fluke.
Well this concludes our statistical fun for the evening.
