I thought this would be an interesting album to discuss because it was this album that brought rap into mainstream commercial popularity. I think its also significant because it came at a time when rap started to turn the corner from fun, upbeat, postive party music into the negative, dark, gangsta stuff.
At the time, if you were into music, you hated this stuff - sampling and scratching and rapping to some was not considered legitimate music. But if you don't take it to serious, it is some fun stuff to listen to.
My favorite songs are "It's Tricky" and "You be Illin". Some of the lyrics are absolutely hilarious.
I'm curious to know how you felt about rap at the time and now. I used to like the fun, hip-hop stuff, but I can't stand the Snoop-Dog and Tupac and other stuff that it has turned into.
