Returning for his final season of college basketball, Houston Mallette likely projects to be a prominent player for the Alabama Crimson Tide during the 2025-26 campaign.
A graduate student, Mallette joined the Alabama program a year ago as an experienced transfer from the WCC, but his first season in Tuscaloosa did not necessarily go how many expected going in. That is because Mallette missed almost all of the 2025-26 season due to injury, appearing in only a few games.
However, with the guard having since returned to full health, what now lies ahead for Mallette in 2025-26 with the Crimson Tide?
Here is everything you need to know about Alabama guard Houston Mallette entering the 2025-26 season.
The 2025-26 season will mark the fifth collegiately for Mallette, a player who originally began his career with three seasons in the WCC at Pepperdine, followed by his first at Alabama a year ago. A 2020-21 WCC All-Freshman pick, Mallette has started 90 of his 100 games played at the collegiate level, all of which came at Pepperdine, to average 13.1 points, 3.3 rebounds, and 2.1 assists per game on 43.1% shooting from the field, 37.7% from three, and 80.6% at the free throw line.
Last season, Mallette missed a majority of the season due to injuries, appearing in only six games off the Crimson Tide's bench. Over those six games, Mallette averaged 3.2 points and 2.2 rebounds per game on 58.3% shooting from the field, as well as 50% from three.
Coming out of high school, Mallette, per the 247Sports Composite rankings, was considered as the nation's No. 207 overall player in the 2021 class, as well as the No. 21 combo guard nationally, prior to attending Pepperdine. Rated a three-star recruit, Mallette was also considered the No. 17 prospect in California, attending Pacifica Christian High School.
Prior to Alabama, Mallette was considered as the No. 116 overall prospect in the transfer portal during the 2024-25 offseason, per 247Sports, as well as the No. 20 shooting guard. Rated as a four-star transfer, Mallette committed to Alabama in March 2024.
Across the entire 2025-26 Alabama basketball roster, there might not be a better three-point shooter than Mallette.
A career 37.7% shooter from deep, Mallette has since returned to full strength from his injury a year ago, and is now likely to play a significant role for the Crimson Tide in 2025-26. As to what exact role that is, Mallette could easily at some point start games for the Crimson Tide, but at the very least, the graduate student should be a top option off the bench who is prominent in the guard rotation.
Overall, expect Mallette to be a prominent contributor for the Crimson Tide this season, and for the guard to likely rival his stats during his season's at Pepperdine in some areas.
