A 13-run third inning led the way for the Adelanto softball team in Wednesday afternoon’s victory over San Jacinto on the road.

The Saints trailed early on and the offensive display proved to be more than enough in the 16-10 victory in the CIF-Southern Section Division 6 quarterfinals.

Adelanto is heading to the semifinals after the program did not have a postseason victory entering its 13th year in existence.

“The biggest change in our program has been the girls playing together and taking pride in sisterhood,” said Adelanto head coach Anthony Rodriguez. “We've preached that since day one. The girls have bought in and have played for each other and not for themselves. These girls put in the work, they show up and practice hard and it translates to game day. We've had girls playing banged up and never give excuses. This run in the playoffs wouldn't have been possible without them believing in team success, and we are loving this ride. They've shown heart and love for the game. Us as coaches couldn't be more proud of them.”

Taylor Fullwood put the Saints on the board in the first inning, lining a double, scoring Kylie Castananon, who was hit by a pitch to lead off the game.

San Jacinto took a 3-0 advantage in the bottom of the inning on a three-run home run from Kaaliyah Johnson, who ended with three home runs and seven RBIs.

But the Saints erupted for 13 runs in the third inning, on four home runs from Ceonie Turner, Zoe Rodriguez, Taylor Fullwood and Briana Davis. Rodriguez capped the inning with a two-run double, scoring Adriana Martinez and Justine Rivera.

Turner collected four hits and fell a single shy of the cycle, as she ended with a pair of doubles. She ended 4 for 5 with three RBIs and four runs, and picked up the victory in the circle with nine strikeouts over seven innings.

Fullwood ended 3 for 5 with five RBIs and two runs, Rodriguez went 2 for 4 with four RBIs, and Davis went 2 for 5 with three RBIs.

At Hesperia, the Patriots allowed nine runs in the first inning and couldn’t quite muster a comeback in the second round of the CIF-SS Division 8 baseball playoffs.

Hesperia Christian finally scored two runs in the sixth inning, and six more in the bottom of the seventh.

Jaden Solorzano went 1 for 2 with three RBIs and a run, Ezra Hawthorne went 2 for 3 with two runs, Caleb Villalba went 2 for 3 with a RBI and a run, and Nathaniel Renner went 1 for 4 with a RBI and a stolen base.
