Vanderbilt women's basketball landed its first transfer commitment of the offseason with former LSU center Aalyah Del Rosario. Del Rosario announced her commitment via Instagram on April 21.

The 6-foot-6 Del Rosario was a 5-star recruit out of the Webb School - Bell Buckle in 2023, but she saw only sparse playing time in two seasons with the Tigers. As a freshman in 2023-24, she averaged 4.7 points and 3.5 rebounds in just over 11 minutes per game. As a sophomore, she played just 6.25 minutes per game and averaged two points and two rebounds.

Where Del Rosario has excelled the most is as a shot-blocker, with 38 career blocks across the two seasons. No Commodore recorded more than 21 blocks in 2024-25.

Vanderbilt under Shea Ralph has previously found success with former 5-star recruits who didn't work out at blue-blood schools. Jordyn Oliver and Justine Pissott are fellow former 5-stars who later joined the Commodores via transfer portal.

"(When players) go into the transfer portal that maybe just didn't find the right fit the first or second time, and then (Oliver) can talk to them about what we've been able to do here, how she's contributed to that," Ralph said after a loss to Oregon in the first round of March Madness.

How Aalyah Del Rosario addition will impact Vanderbilt women's basketball roster

Del Rosario will compete for playing time with the Commodores' other post players: Aiyana Mitchell, Sacha Washington and Trinity Wilson.

Washington is an experienced fifth-year player who has more of a track record as a scorer than Del Rosario, but she is just 6-2. Mitchell is 6-4 and provided a strong defensive presence off the bench in 2024-25.

Vanderbilt has been desperate for more of a post presence after ranking 15th of 16 SEC teams in 2024-25 in rebounding margin. The return of Washington, who missed the entire season with blood clots, will also help there.

Vanderbilt has two roster spots remaining with this addition. Iyana Moore is the only player to enter the transfer portal for the Commodores, with stars Mikayla Blakes and Khamil Pierre slated to return.
