College football officially returned a week ago as a handful of teams got action underway in Week 0, but if we're being honest, that was just an appetizer.
Now comes the main course.
Things kicked off on Thursday night with a handful of great games, and there are a few notable matchups on Friday night as well. And then on Saturday morning, the feast begins. There are a number of marquee matchups in Week 1 that will last throughout the weekend, with teams like the Texas Longhorns, Ohio State Buckeyes, Alabama Crimson Tide, and Notre Dame Fighting Irish all getting in on the action.
While Oregon is expected to win comfortably against the Montana State Bobcats, there are other things that Duck fans should be keeping an eye on throughout the weekend. Here are the top games we encouraged everyone to tune into over the next several days.
When: Saturday, August 30, 9 a.m. PT
Where to Watch: FOX
Why to Watch: Not only is this the biggest game of the weekend, but it is undoubtedly one of the biggest Week 1 non-conference matchups we've seen in quite a long time. Both Ohio State and Texas enter the season with new starting quarterbacks and eyes on the College Football Playoff with dreams of a national championship.
When: Saturday, August 30, 12:30 p.m. PT
Where to Watch: ABC
Why to Watch: In all likelihood, this isn't going to be a great game, since Florida State is looking to rebound after a 2-10 season, but Alabama should be the real deal this year, so it will be fun to tap in and see what Ty Simposn looks like under center, and Kalen DeBoer in his second year at the helm.
When: Saturday, August 30, 4:30 p.m. PT
Where to Watch: ABC
Why to Watch: Another one of the top matchups to watch this weekend, both Clemson and LSU go into the year with high expectations and goals of making the College Football Playoff. Neither Dabo Swinney nor Brian Kelly have stellar records in season-opening games, so this will be an important one for both sides to get started on the right foot.
When: Saturday, August 30, 4:30 p.m. PT
Where to Watch: NBC
Why to Watch: You may be surprised to see this game on the list, but truthfully, I just want to tune in for a quarter or two in order to watch Bryce Underwood and see what all the hype is about. Oregon will have to face him at some point down the road, so let's see what he can do.
When: Saturday, August 30, 7:30 p.m. PT
Where to Watch: ESPN
Why to Watch: You know that Oregon Duck fans are going to want to watch Jaron-Keave Sagapolutele and his first start with the California Golden Bears. On a similar note, it will be interesting to see what Maalik Murphy can do with Oregon State, as the Ducks will play them in just a handful of weeks.
When: Saturday, August 30, 8 p.m. PT
Where to Watch: FOX
Why to Watch: Getting to see Nico Iamaleava Jr. in a new home at UCLA has me intrigued, to say the least.
When: Saturday, August 30, 8 p.m. PT
Where to Watch: Big Ten Network
Why to Watch: Who doesn't want to watch Jedd Fisch and the Huskies as they start what is supposed to be a bounceback year up in Seattle?
When: Sunday, September 1, 4:30 p.m. PT
Where to Watch: ABC
Why to Watch: The marquee game on Sunday, Mario Cristobal and the Hurricanes take on Marcus Freeman and the Fighting Irish in a top-10 clash. This one should be entertaining to watch as both try to get off to a hot start.
When: Monday, September 2, 5 p.m. PT
Where to Watch: ESPN
Why to Watch: Name one college football fan who isn't at least a little bit intrigued by watching Bill Belichick kick off his college career with North Carolina on Monday night. I'll wait.
