Nick Schmaltz on 7-year contract extension with ARI: "We have a great core of young, talented players in Arizona & I'm looking forward to coming back healthy next season & contributing for many years to come. We have a very bright future here and I'm thrilled to be a part of it."

Nick Schmaltz had 5 goals & 14 points in 17 games w/the Coyotes before his injury. He also gave their PP something it had not seen for a long while before, & has not seen since: a poised & skilled presence on the half wall. The PP operated at 20% efficiency w/him in the lineup.

Nick Schmaltz hasn't played since suffering a knee injury at the end of December, but he has resumed skating after rehabbing with Bill Knowles of HP Sports and the Coyotes training staff. The Coyotes obviously view him as a key part of their future.
