Nate Silver's political polling site has also gotten into sports, and the NBA in particular. One thing they model is a player's projected performance based on his similarities to previous players. They call their modeling "CARMELO," based on some silly acronym.

I don't put much stock in the projections, but it's fun to look at who are the closest matches in terms of similarities at each player's stage in his career, by whatever their methodology is.

Ayton: #1 Karl-Anthony Towns, #2 Brook Lopez, #3 John Collins
Booker: Eric Gordon, Carmelo Anthony, Kyrie Irving
Rubio: Mike Conley, Mike Newlin(?), Devin Harris
Oubre: Nic Batum, T.J. Warren, Mike Mitchell(?)
Bridges: Casey Jacobsen, Wally Szczerbiak, Nic Batum
Saric: Vladimir Radmanovic, Jonas Jerebko, Tim Thomas
Jackson: "D." (Donyell?) Marshall, Darius Miles, Drew Gooden
Baynes: Rasho Nesterovic, Aaron Williams, Fabricio Oberto

Nick Batum has been a Bridges comparison ever since he was drafted.
Batum was a good player at one time. He just got so extremely overpaid, he whithered under the pressure.

Mike Newlin played in the late 70's early 80's. Good shooter no handle an undersized 2, damn near the opposite of Rubio IMO.

I swear you're like a basketball encyclopedia with some of the stuff you throw out there. It used to surprise me but at this point I almost expect your posts to contain a nugget or two of information that is new to me, and probably most others.

I am shocked just to read Casey Jacobsen in any point of reference.
