With two holes in their rotation, the Diamondbacks are likely to turn to the trade market to fill at least one of them.

There aren’t many teams with starting pitching to move — and there are a lot of teams with rotation needs — so getting a deal done won’t be easy, especially since the Diamondbacks would prefer to trade prospects rather than peel off their major league team.

But here are some teams/pitchers that might match up with the Diamondbacks this winter.

1. Freddy Peralta, RHP, Brewers

Right-hander Brandon Woodruff’s decision to accept the Brewers’ qualifying offer could make a Peralta trade a little more likely. But for as little as Peralta is making ($8 million) and as good as he’s been, there will be no shortage of interested teams, which likely will push up the price in trade.

2. MacKenzie Gore, LHP, Nationals

Gore remains more of an upside play than a safe bet given his career 4.19 ERA, but with two years to go before free agency, if he were to put together the kind of run his ability suggests is possible, he would be an incredible acquisition. The cost in prospects is certain to be very high.

3. Mitch Keller/Mike Burrows/Jared Jones, RHPs, Pirates

The Pirates might have excess starting pitching and are in desperate need of offense. They likely will want more proven bats than the young hitters the Diamondbacks are most open to moving, but perhaps a match can be found with one of their non-Paul Skenes/Bubba Chandler arms.

4. Brady Singer, RHP, Reds

Singer has a year to go before free agency and projects to earn close to $12 million in arbitration. As a durable innings-eater with decent production, he could make sense, especially since the Reds need hitting.

5. Kris Bubic, LHP, Royals

Bubic is reportedly available via trade, according to The Athletic’s Will Sammon. He would be a bit of a risky pickup given his health issues — his season ended early this year due to a rotator cuff strain — but the Royals could use offense. With only one year to go before free agency, Bubic’s price shouldn’t be exorbitant.
