The San Francisco 49ers have selected Georgia Bulldogs defensive end Mykel Williams with the No. 11 pick in the 2025 NFL draft.
Williams was considered a potential No. 1 pick in the draft prior to 2024 college football season. However, his season did not go as planned. Williams suffered an ankle injury in Georgia's season opener against Clemson. Williams said after the season that he did not feel close to 100%.
Williams did not participate at the 2025 NFL combine due to the same ankle injury, but he later did athletic testing during Georgia's pro day. The 6-foot-5, 265-pound defensive end is from Columbus, Georgia.
Williams helped Georgia win a national championship during his true freshman season in 2022. He posted at least 4.5 sacks during all three of his seasons at Georgia. He spent time at both defensive end and outside linebacker and excelled as a run defender.
"This guy can play on the edge, but he can also play on the tackle," said former Alabama head coach Nick Saban shortly after Williams was drafted. "I like this pick."
During Williams' 2024 season, he recorded 21 tackles, five sacks and two pass deflections. He was a second-team All-SEC for his efforts in 2024.
The 49ers are looking to rebuild in the trenches and Williams is an excellent pick for San Francisco. Williams has as much potential as any pass rusher in the draft.
