Their journey through free agency may not have been as fun as advertised, but the Carolina Panthers deserve some props for addressing a few areas of concern earlier this offseason. And now, the excitement really ramps up.

We are now at the doorstep of the 2025 NFL draft, which is set to begin on Thursday night out of Green Bay, Wisc. The upcoming selection process will give Carolina the chance to continue their growth by adding more talent to the roster.

So with a handful of needs still remaining and nine picks to fill them, let's look at four positions the Panthers could attack in the draft.

Outside linebacker

Carolina's historically-bad defense from 2024 ranked last in pressure rate (16.2 percent) and compiled the third-fewest sacks (32). Free-agent signee Pat Jones II may be a promising player worth building with, but he can't be the only addition to the edge this offseason.

Plus, starters Jadeveon Clowney and D.J. Wonnum are both entering the final years of their contracts. The Panthers have to find an impact pass rusher of the future.

Safety

Speaking of additions, the Panthers inked another rising defender in Tre'von Moehrig—who will likely man the strong safety position. The unit, however, has only two other safeties (Nick Scott and Demani Richardson) outside of the former Las Vegas Raider.

With Carolina needing to up their takeaway total, they may be targeting a ballhawking free safety to insert into their starting lineup.

Wide receiver

General manager Dan Morgan and head coach Dave Canales seem rather content with the current state of their wideout room. But how happy can you really be with a 35-year-old Adam Thielen, two second-year youngsters and David Moore as your top four receivers?

The Panthers ranked 30th in yards per passing attempt (6.2) this past season. So if they're looking to spice this group up and install a new dimension into their offense, a speedy downfield threat would fit quite nicely.

Cornerback

Mike Jackson served as a worthy No. 2 across from Pro Bowler Jaycee Horn, and he got a new two-year, $14.5 million deal for it. The Panthers, however, may be able to find an upgrade in this pretty deep cornerback class.

If they don't, they'll still need depth on the outside and competition at the nickel spot for 2024 fifth-round pick Chau Smith-Wade.
