Purdue basketball coach Matt Painter is generally pretty good with the media, typically explaining things in great detail and in ways that is easy to understand. And, apparently, could become an ultimate frisbee star, or just wants good luck.
After Painter's news conference following the Boilermakers' 76-62 win over McNeese State, Painter joined reporter Adam Zagoria on a tradition. The hook:
"Danny (Hurley) did it after he won last year," Zagoria said of UConn's national championship win which, mind you, was over Purdue. That's all Painter needed to be convinced.
"Well hell yeah, I want to do it now," he said.
Home sweet home? Does Purdue have an edge playing March Madness Sweet 16 in Indy? Not necessarily
Purdue player ratings: Starters dominate way past Cowboys to March Madness Sweet 16
Painter then stood up from the dais, told Zags he has too much free time, and promptly sandwich caught the frisbee twice with a somewhat puzzled look on his face.
"Now you're going to go viral," Zagoria said, as if Painter needs help. Then Zagoria doubled down that Hurley's success was because of this apparent tradition, but Painter was skeptical.
"You think that was the reason?" Painter said hardly holding in his laughter, "Not Donovan Clingan?"
