The North Carolina Tar Heels are setting themselves up for a strong future, thanks to new head coach Bill Belichick and strong recruiting classes.

UNC has its 2025 class locked in, headlined by a pair of 4-stars in quarterback Bryce Baker and running back Jaylen McGill. North Carolina's 2026 class is even more loaded – featuring four separate, 4-star recruits in edge rusher Zavion Griffin-Haynes, defensive tackle Trashawn Ruffin, quarterback Travis Burgess and safety Jamarrion Gordon.

The Tar Heels' nationally-ranked 2026 class grew one more player on Tuesday, landing a re-commitment from 3-star wide receiver O'Mari Johnson.

After two previous visits to UNC, backing off his initial commitment on May 30 and facing a strong recruiting push from Tulane, Johnson chose Chapel Hill as his college football destination – again.

“To have the opportunity to play football for one of the greatest coaches of all time is an honor,” Johnson told Rivals' Chad Simmons. “Coach Belichick knows football, how to develop players and what it takes to perform at the next level. North Carolina checks all the boxes for me. It is a place where I’ll be embraced and molded as an athlete and a student. After visiting several schools and seeing what each one had to offer, I felt like North Carolina gave me a sense of security. I felt like it was right for me… Each time I have been on the campus, I have loved the school and the atmosphere that it offers more and more. I feel like I’ve made the best decision for my future by committing to North Carolina."

According to Johnson's 247Sports recruiting profile, he's Mississippi's 17th-ranked recruit and 73rd-ranked wide receiver nationally. With a strong senior campaign at Jackson Academy, don't be shocked if Johnson adds a fourth star to his name.

If the Tar Heels thrive during their upcoming fall campaign, don't be surprised if their 2026 recruiting class grows by several prospects.
