Based on what we have seen or haven't yet seen in the first three pre-season games, here are some thoughts:

POS. HT. WT. AGE EXP. COLLEGE

55 Abraham, John OLB 6-4 263 36 15 South Carolina

Red Flag: Off-season inactivity, DUI bust and alcohol rehabilitation. Reported to camp 19 days late, overweight and out of shape.

Reality: Still the only edge rushing threat on the roster.

Roster Lock? Yes.

94 Acho, Sam OLB 6-3 257 25 4 Texas

Red Flag: Still hasn't asserted himself as a reliable pass rushing threat.

Reality: Hard worker, but needs to be replaced by a pass rusher.

Roster Lock? No.

97 Alexander, Lorenzo ILB 6-1 244 31 8 California

Red Flag: Signed last year with the hope of being a regular on the defense, but has not played well enough to warrant playing time. Moreover, has not shown himself to be the ST ace he was in DC.

Reality: Good locker room guy, but on the field, he has not earned a spot on the roster.

Roster Lock? No.

35 Bauman, Zach RB 5-10 200 22 R Northern Arizona

Red Flag: Smallish and comes from a small school.

Reality: Offers the quick feet and bounce that 3 of the top 4 RBs lack.

Roster Lock? No.

Practice Squad Likelihood? Yes.

59 Benard, Marcus OLB 6-2 256 29 5 Jackson State

Red Flag: Was the second best edge rusher last year, but has not brought that momentum into this year's training camp.

Reality: On a team starved for edge rushers, he sticks.

Roster Lock? Yes.

28 Bethel, Justin CB 6-0 190 24 3 Presbyterian

Red Flag: None

Reality: Remains ST ace and has shown strong improvement at CB.

Roster Lock? Yes.

52 Bishop, Desmond ILB 6-2 244 30 7 California

Red Flag: ACL rehabilitation. Looked fluid and fast last week, but slower and more gimpy this week.

Reality: Offers athleticism in a high need area, but can he hold up physically?

Roster Lock? No.

64 Blake, Philip C/G 6-3 310 28 2 Baylor

Red Flag: Not the kind of athletic guard that BA&SK prefer, but he is physical at the point of attack and solid in his base in pass pro.

Reality: Has moved up the depth chart after year on PS, but is still not a legitimate roster candidate.

Roster Lock? No.

Practice Squad? Yes.

13 Brown, Jaron WR 6-2 205 24 2 Clemson

Red Flag: None.

Reality: His emergence as a big-play WR threat may spawn a reliance on more 3-4 WR sets.

Roster Lock? Yes.

12 Brown, John WR 5-11 179 24 R Pittsburg State

Red Flag: Dropped passes.

Reality: His infusion of speed and big-play ability opens up the entire offense.

Roster Lock? Yes.

45 Brown, Jonathan LB 6-1 230 22 R Illinois

Red Flag: Doesn't quite seem suited to play 34 ILB in Bowles' system.

Reality: Has been praised for his effort by Bowles and could develop in time.

Roster Lock? No.

Practice Squad? Possibly.

36 Bucannon, Deone S 6-1 208 21 R Washington State

Red Flag: None.

Reality: His versatility and toughness make him an attractive piece of the defensive puzzle as a SS and nickel ILB.

Roster Lock? Yes.

81 Buckner, Dan WR 6-5 215 24 1 Arizona

Red Flag: Lack of speed.

Reality: High effort, physical player whom the coaches appreciate.

Roster Lock? No.

Practice Squad? Possibly.

93 Campbell, Calais DE 6-8 300 27 7 Miami (Fla.)

Red Flag: None

Reality: Is about to face more double teams than ever with Dockett out. But, he seems poised and prepared to have a Pro Bowl caliber season.

Roster Lock? Yes.

89 Carlson, John TE 6-5 248 30 7 Notre Dame

Red Flag: History of concussions.

Reality: Most natural TE on the roster. Has been kept quiet in the pre-season on purpose, because he is BA's and CP's secret weapon heading into game one.

Roster Lock? Yes.

56 Carson, Glenn OLB 6-3 236 23 R Penn State

Red Flag: Lack of ideal athleticism and range.

Reality: Has been climbing up the depth chart. Plays tough.

Roster Lock? No.

Practice Squad? Very likely.

7 Catanzaro, Chandler K 6-3 208 23 R Clemson

Red Flag: Inexperience.

Reality: Has won the kicking job, but could be supplanted by a waiver wire acquisition.

Roster Lock? No.

Practice Squad: Possibly, especially now that it is 10 players.

44 Clayton, Keenan ILB 6-1 230 27 4 Oklahoma

Red Flag: Has been passed over by rookies.

Reality: Has some ability in pass coverage, but probably won't make the final 75.

Roster Lock? No.

Practice Squad: Unlikely.

61 Cooper, Jonathan G 6-2 312 24 2 North Carolina

Red Flag: Slow recovery from broken leg and now has a turf toe injury.

Reality: It is going to take Coop some time to get his body and mind right.

Roster Lock? Yes.

31 Cromartie, Antonio CB 6-2 210 30 9 Florida State

Red Flag: Poor tackling.

Reality: Will play a huge role covering top WRs and TEs.

Roster Lock? Yes.

54 Demens, Kenny ILB 6-1 242 24 1 Michigan

Red Flag: Questions about range and cover ability.

Reality: Has really stepped up his game and is showing why he was the all-time leading tackler in Ann Arbor.

Roster Lock? Yes.

53 Dickson, JoJo ILB 6-1 245 25 1 Idaho

Red Flag: Has been passed over by rookies.

Reality: While he is a very good A & B gap blitzer, he's not polished in other aspects of the ILB position.

Roster Lock? No.

Practice Squad? Probably not.

60 Draheim, Tommie C 6-4 309 25 1 San Diego State

Red Flag: Not as nimble or quick-footed as BA&SK prefer at guard.

Reality: Plays big and is very physical. Has upside and can play center.

Roster Lock? No.

Practice Squad? Very likely.

17 Dunn, Reggie WR 5-9 178 25 1 Utah

Red Flag: Smallish, but fast.

Reality: Hasn't flashed and probably won't make the final 75.

Practice Squad? Maybe at some point, but likely not.

20 Dwyer, Jonathan RB 5-11 229 25 5 Georgia Tech

Red Flag: None.

Reality: Has emerged as the true #2 RB and power option.

Roster Lock? Yes.

38 Ellington, Andre RB 5-9 199 25 2 Clemson

Red Flag: Durability.

Reality: He's the straw that stirs the drink. Has unique explosiveness.

Roster Lock? Yes.

65 Estes, John C 6-2 293 27 4 Hawaii

Red Flag: Lack of size.

Reality: Has been solid on the second line, but would have a hard time surpassing Sendlein, Larsen and Draheim.

Roster Lock? No.

Practice Squad? Possibly, but maybe not right away.

74 Fanaika, Paul G 6-5 327 28 5 Arizona State

Red Flag: Lacks ideal athleticism at RG.

Reality: One of the more rugged, hungry and steady players on the roster.

Roster Lock? Yes.

4 Feely, Jay K 5-10 208 38 14 Michigan

Red Flag: Poor kickoffs.

Reality: Was given every opportunity and is well liked by the coaches and his teammates, but has created more doubt than certainty.

Roster Lock? No.

85 Fells, Darren TE 6-7 281 28 1 California-Irvine

Red Flag: Inexperience.

Reality: Has worked his way into a possible starting job. Is physically imposing.

Roster Lock? Yes.

11 Fitzgerald, Larry WR 6-3 218 30 11 Pittsburgh

Red Flag: None.

Reality: May not be featured as much with all the other talent around him which likely will frustrate him. Carson Palmer has to stop trying to force it into him at predictable times. But, the talent around him should open him up more than usual.

15 Floyd, Michael WR 6-3 225 24 3 Notre Dame

Red Flag: Nagging injuries.

Reality: Was having a huge camp until his latest injury and was out of sync with Carson Palmer last night, once because he got bumped by the CB and the second time because he slowed down after he became wide open. If he can get healthy and recreate the chemistry he had early in camp with Carson, he could have a big-time season.

Roster Lock? Yes.

50 Foote, Larry ILB 6-1 239 34 13 Michigan

Red Flag: Age and durability.

Reality: Has really taken command of the defense and shown excellent read and react instincts and an ability to step up and finish tackles.

Roster Lock? Yes.

75 Gaston, Bruce DT 6-2 310 22 R Purdue

Red Flag: Injury.

Reality: Was making a splash with assertive, aggressive style of play before the injury, but needs to make a push this week to stick, if he's physically able to.

Roster Lock? No.

Practice Squad? Definitely, if he is not claimed or placed on IR.

19 Ginn, Ted WR 5-11 185 29 8 Ohio State

Red Flag: Some inconsistency at WR.

Reality: Brings high value to STs in the return game and should be a timely playmaker on the offense.

Roster Lock? Yes.

10 Golden, Brittan WR 5-11 186 26 2 West Texas A&M

Red Flag: On the small side and caught in a numbers crunch.

Reality: He is one of the best 53 players on the roster and the coaches have a very difficult decision to make with him because he fits the system well and is good on STs.

Roster Lock? No.

Practice Squad? Definitely, but the chances are good that he will be claimed off waivers by a team that needs to add another slot WR, return man.

80 Hardy, Andre TE 6-6 245 27 1 Cal State-Fullerton

Red Flag: Inexperience.

Reality: He has worked his way into eventual roster consideration, but is not quite there yet. Is a natural pass catcher and athlete.

Roster Lock? No.

Practice Squad? Definitely.

84 Housler, Rob TE 6-5 250 26 4 Florida Atlantic

Red Flag: Invisibility, subpar blocking and pass receiving inconsistency.

Reality: There's a possibility and perhaps even a likelihood that BA may adapt to his personnel and add more emphasis on 3-4 WR sets and thus less emphasis on 2 TE sets. Thus, Housler might be more on the bubble (or on the trading block) than many think. The reality is---he is just not BA's type of TE.

Roster Lock? No.

39 Hughes, Robert RB 5-11 235 25 2 Notre Dame

Red Flag: None.

Reality: Hughes is BA's type of power RB/FB, ST stalwart.

Roster Lock? Yes.

Reality: He has done everything he can to be a major contributor on the defense.

Roster Lock? Yes.

Red Flag: Late signee, perhaps a bit of a tweener.

Reality: Has flashed as a bull rusher and aggressive edge defender.

Roster Lock? No.

Practice Squad? Quite possibly.

33 Johnson, Orhian S 6-3 211 24 1 Ohio State

Red Flag: Still deep on depth chart in second year.

Reality: Showed some ability in coverage, but is not as physical as the coaches want.

Roster Lock? No.

Practice Squad? Possibly, but doubtful.

26 Johnson, Rashad S 5-11 204 28 6 Alabama

Red Flag: Pass coverage inconsistency.

Reality: Has emerged as one of the smartest, most physical players on the defense.

Roster Lock? Yes.

62 Larsen, Ted C/G 6-2 305 27 5 North Carolina State

Red Flag: A tad undersized.

Reality: He played very well at LG last night, particularly is pass protection. Has a big assignment in week one in Corey Liuget.

Roster Lock? Yes.

82 Leach, Mike LS 6-2 235 37 15 William and Mary

Red Flag: None.

Reality: Perennially, one of the most reliable long snappers in the NFL.

Roster Lock? Yes.

46 Legree, Jimmy CB 6-0 187 23 R South Carolina

Red Flag: Lack of speed and quickness.

Reality: Has struggled in pre-season action.

Roster Lock? No.

Practice Squad? Possibly, but not likely.

96 Martin, Kareem DE 6-6 272 22 R North Carolina

Red Flag: Tweener.

Reality: Has been fairly easily blocked in the pre-season. Not as slippery as he needs to be. Hasn't shown much as a pass rusher.

Roster Lock? Yes (3rd rounder).

70 Massie, Bobby T 6-6 316 25 3 Mississippi

Red Flag: Inconsistency.

Reality: Has far and away won the RT job and is playing up to expectations. Needs to hone his run blocking techniques.

Roster Lock? Yes.

32 Mathieu, Tyrann S 5-9 186 22 2 LSU

Red Flag: Knee rehabilitation.

Reality: The straw that stirs the drink on defense. Best tackler and cover guy. Instinctive and ultra competitive.

69 McBean, Ryan DE 6-5 305 30 7 Oklahoma State

Red Flag: Hasn't played in over a year or two.

Reality: If he makes the 75, he was one week to make a statement.

Roster Lock? No.

23 McCann, Bryan CB 5-11 185 26 5 Southern Methodist

Red Flag: Penalties on kickoff and punt returns---blocks in the back.

Reality: Very good gunner on STs and aggressive in pass coverage.

Roster Lock? Yes.

51 Minter, Kevin ILB 6-1 245 23 2 LSU

Red Flag: Injury.

Reality: His situation is very much up in the air---the Cardinals might have to put him on IR. Was playing very well early in camp until the injury.

Roster Lock? Yes, if healthy.

87 Niklas, Troy TE 6-6 270 21 R Notre Dame

Red Flag: Injuries, lackluster play.

Reality: The light has yet to go on. Has not been playing up to BA's standards, despite his size and ability.

Reality: Has intriguing ability.

Roster Lock? No.

Roster Lock? Yes.

69 Palmer, Kelvin T 6-4 290 23 R Baylor

Red Flag: Undersized.

Reality: Has been working hard and playing fairly well despite his limitations.

Roster Lock? Yes.

Roster Lock? Yes.

43 Sermons, Brandon DB 5-11 195 23 R UCLA

Red Flag: Raw.

Reality: Has flashed some ability, especially on STs.

Roster Lock? No.

Practice Squad? Quite possibly.

91 Shaughnessy, Matt OLB 6-5 285 27 6 Wisconsin

Red Flag: Pass coverage, pass rush and outside contain shortcomings.

Roster Lock? Yes.

71 Sopoaga, Isaac DT 6-2 330 32 10 Hawaii

Red Flag: Coming off poor season.

Roster Lock? No.

71 Steen, Anthony G 6-3 310 24 R Alabama

Red Flag: Shoulder injury.

Reality: Tried to gut his way back but is not ready.

Roster Lock? No.

Practice Squad? There's a chance the Cardinals might place him on IR if they feel he can be factor when healthy next year. Or. Maybe they stash him on the PS and stay patient with him.

72 Stinson, Ed DE 6-3 287 24 R Alabama

Red Flag: Size.

Reality: Has shown decent strength, but hasn't shown he can shed tackles and make plays. Nor has he shown any semblance of a pass rush.

Roster Lock? No. If there's a DE/DT available on waivers that BA&SK like, Stinson could be waived, with the hope of signing him to the PS. Because he is a tweener, the risk of waiving him is not all that high.

Practice squad? Yes, if waived and unclaimed.

Roster Lock? No.

Practice Squad? Yes, if waived and unclaimed.

Red Flag: Small and slight. Way back of depth chart.

Reality: Hasn't even garnered any real playing time.

Roster Lock? No.

Practice Squad? Unlikely.

6 Thomas, Logan QB 6-6 250 23 R Virginia Tech

Red Flag: Inconsistency.

Reality: Has shown commendable progress and talent.

Roster Lock? Yes.

47 Tracy, Adrian OLB 6-2 248 27 3 William & Mary

Red Flag: Raw.

Reality: He's making progress and can play both guard spots.

Roster Lock? No. If there's a guard on waivers BA&SK like. Watford could be waived and re-signed to the PS. It wouldn't appear that a team would claim him at this point in his development.

Practice squad? Yes, if waived and unclaimed.

Red Flag: Raw.

Reality: Speedy player who lacks technique and instincts.

Roster Lock? No.

Practice Squad: Possibly, but unlikely.

92 Williams, Dan DT 6-2 327 27 5 Tennessee

Red Flag: Injuries and stamina.

Reality: This could be a big year for Big Dan and he's smelling it. Could see some rotation reps at 34DE at times too.

Roster Lock? Yes.

29 Williams, Teddy CB 6-1 207 26 3 Texas-San Antonio

Red Flag: Lack of instincts as a CB.

Reality: Good gunner on STs, but two holding calls last night were tough, as was getting beat a few times again in coverage.

Interesting how the Alexander vs. Bernard competition will work out.

Benard didn't see the field last night on defense, BTW, and Alexander was playing with the 2nd team defense at OLBer.

What that means ? Not sure.

He had a knee injury and was out for a series I think, and then was back in the next. I never saw him. I think I just heard it here or on tv that he was back out there after his injury scare.

Good point. I think Alexander was getting a longer look because he's a veteran on the bubble.

However, Josh Weinfuss (ESPN), has been maintaining that Benard will be cut---he also was maintaining that Paul Fanaika would be cut (right up until last week)...and he has both McCann and Williams making it at CB. But, then again, he had Max Starks making it when he posted his updated roster prediction this morning.

I think your roster prediction, Rugby, is spot-on, that is of the players in house. I could see---and I think you can too---3 to 4 waiver claims, or a possible trade or two.

My only difference is that i have Benard in place of Alexander---and Sopoaga ahead of LB Carson

My Last 5 In this week:

T Potter
WR Powell
DT Sopoaga
LB Bishop
CB McCann

My First 5 Out:

WR Golden
T Sowell
DT Sopaoga
LB Alexander
CB Williams

I think Carson goes to the PS---but you could be right.
