Jordan Zimmermann; 14-5, 2.66 ERA, 1.07 WHIP, 8.2 K/9
Stephen Strasburg; 14-11, 3.14 ERA, 1.12 WHIP, 10.1 K/9
Doug Fister; 16-6, 2.41 ERA, 1.08 WHIP, 5.4 K/9
Gio Gonzalez; 10-10, 3.57 ERA, 1.20 WHIP, 9.2 K/9
Tanner Roark; 15-10, 2.85 ERA, 1.09 WHIP, 6.3 K/9

The Nationals led the league in starter ERA last season.

Baseball analysts believe in order to afford Scherzer, WAS may have to deal Zimmerman and Desmond who have reportedly been on the block all offseason. In fact, that might be the hold up on completing a deal, when/if a deal is announced for Scherzer, WAS may have a deal in place to deal at least Zimmerman. Rumor has it BOS is trying to make a move for Zimmerman.

That's a lot of money for a pitcher in his 30's.

Max Scherzer's deal with the #Nationals is for seven-years, $210 million, according to @Ken_Rosenthal.

$30M a year! That's nearly $1M a start (he made 32 starts last year). Ha ha ha....ARZ never had a chance despite the rumors they were interested in him or Shields. I wonder what Shields signs for....he shouldn't get anywhere near Scherzer but he is the last domino left in FA, there are some guys on the block (Hamels, Zimmerman) but these contracts are getting ridiculous.

Half of Scherzer's deal is deferred. Washington is paying $15 million a year for 14 years.

$14 million for nothing is better than what the D'backs got from the $17.4 million they paid Cody Ross and Trevor Cahill last year.

Typically neither the player/agent nor the teams like to do deferred deals. It will be interesting to see if this deal changes how teams absorb these huge money contracts.

Geovany Soto & Brad Penny sign minor league deals with White Sox. There goes any last hope for a veteran C, minor league deal so it couldn't have cost much to sign him. ARZ must have not been interested at all in Soto.
