Jeez, Rugby, you created a monster. Some of joeschmo's additions make sense. I'd love to have Renaldo hill back.

Crazy Canuck -- the problem is Leinart is due a $10 million bonus next year at the start of what would be Warner's year 2 of extention and guaranteed starting. This is dumb use of money and CAP. Won't happen. (IN MY OPINION) If we extend Warner, we'll trade Leinart and draft a QBOF.

A) re: Leinart 10M - that's 2010 not 09. He's at 3.7M for 09.
B) all these contracts to first round picks are back loaded for the purpose of re-signing a new agreement if the team / player show choose.
C) If traded, another team would be picking up the same issue

Until further notice.. Leinart is the QBOF...

Yep if traded this offseason the team he is traded to know owns that 15+mill bonus due to him in 2010. Makes him highly untradeable this year or the next. Which means there is no reason to try and get anything for him this year and may as well sit on him for one more year to make sure Warner at the age of 38 can still last a full season, and if at the age of 39 wont retire in 2010 or not be able to play anymore in 2010.

First, thank you for the great write up Rugby, and nice follow up Joe, Canuck and others. When I saw this thread, I avoided it at work because I knew I would want to spend time on it.

Regarding this point, I somewhat agree, but not entirely. By not playing Matt in '09, we are going to have to make a decision on his future contract without ever really seeing him play. If another team trades for him, they would play him in '09. That would give them a much better feel for his capabilities as a starting QB.

Also, I agree that if Kurt is not signed, that is more reason to trade Quan. Then take part of that compensation and trade it for Tony Gonzales. A third rounder was mentioned last year at the trading deadline. A security blanket TE is just what Matt could use, not to mention helping with the running game. Plus we still have Larry and Breaston as weapons. (Add Early Doucet you have plenty of depth)

What a great, great thread. Nice work Rug.

Just a couple of brief thoughts, working outside the what's already been discussed.

Daniel Wilcox, to my knowledge, is really more of a pass-catching specialist then a blocking specialist. Now most of what I know with him stems from his earlier years, and I haven't had access to many Ravens games since I lost the ticket... call me if I'm wrong.
Tony Stewart's a rush blocker (OAK) who would be cheap.
... I'd really like Spach to get healthy though. His game in the last leg of the season was well above average. If he can return to his form he should have a place in the NFL.

Jason Brown (BAL) is a C FA I'm very excited about. He's another young, tough guy. I'd be shocked if BAL lets him walk, but if he does he'd be the signing Al Johnson should have been.

Elton Brown's contribution in depth shouldn't be overlooked. He could be brought back for minimum salary. Regardless of who's waiting in the wings (Brandon Keith!) the more stable the depth the better the line will be when on the the players gets injured.

I like Arrington as a lot more than I thought I would when the team drafted him. But I'd love to see Sproles in red, but I do believe it'd be a long shot.
The biggest reason is his explosion in the return and screen game. I see consistency in JJ. I see shifty, but Sproles brings POP to all that.
