1 – Remember that this game (and the previous two) was about the final 53, but it was also about the practice squad. Now there are 16 spots available, so several of the backups will still be with the team on Wednesday.

2 – They might make a waiver claim or two, but it will almost surely not be their preferred player option, simply because they are so far down in the selection order (#16 in line). To me, trades or free agency-veterans are the most realistic way to upgrade the roster.

3 – I was really looking forward to evaluating the WR’s, but it was almost impossible because of Tune and the offensive line.

4 – There you go, Kei’Trel Clark. Atrocious for two games, and now arguable both the best defender and special teamer.

5 – Ossenfort and Gannon have shown several times that they are loyal to their draft picks, so I would think that Xavier Thomas made the final roster in this game. He certainly played well.

6 – Every single offensive lineman was horrible. It is very worrying since several of them could realistically see action.

I don’t know, gents. Maybe they should trade for someone instead of hoping that a hidden gem falls down the waiver wire-system. Rasheed Walker from the Packers could be available. So could Blake Fisher of the Texans. Just a couple of options that I thought of.

7 – Last year, TE Travis Vokolek was a nice preseason surprise with multiple great blocks. This year it is Josiah Deguara who impresses (and is better in the passing game than Vokolek last preseason).

8 – In a way I am against them signing- or trading for a new cornerback from another team. They have drafted so many the last three years, so now they need to see what they got.

9 – I think that Elijah Simmons would be much more effective with better players around him, since he takes up a lot of space and blockers. He is absolutely not flashy, but very important. It’s just that the other defensive linemen are not always good enough to take advantage of his work.
Last week, P.J. Mustipher were the man in the middle (pun intended). This time it was Simmons.

10 – I would be shocked if Simi Fehoko is not on the final 53.

11 – That was Jordan Burch’ fumble all the way. He is impressive.

12 – I am not worried about the CB-group as long as they have Darren Hall. #AllPro

13 – I hope Bam Knight makes the final roster, primarily because of the nickname. It would just be cool to have a Bam on the field.
Well, and yeah, sure, he also plays fine.

14 – I like Elliot Brown, and with Ojulari out, there might be one or two edge rush-spots to compete for. I hope Brown makes it. I could see someone else claim him before the Cards can get him on the practice squad.

15 – I think you start looking at the available free agents for reinforcements now. Both because you have a better evaluation of what you need, and because I could see several of those free agents having been a bit reluctant to sign before training camp is over.

Amari Cooper is a popular name due to his relationship with Drew Petzing, and obviously his position (hey, who’s up for some Odell Beckham for the same reasons? Okay, not me.)

Brandon Scherff is almost certainly still a starting caliber offensive guard (at least he was last season).

Interior Oline and WR2 are deeply concerning. I’d be okay w a flier on Amari - never heard of him being disruptive in the locker room. He just disappears sometimes as if of black of effort….but even at this stage leaps and bounds better than Wilson

There seems to be much negativity about Tune. I disagree.
He played with an offensive line that was lacking, to say the least, in adequate protection but still made some good passes. More importantly he has great running skills.

I think Scherff retired.
K Clark is to up and down for me. I like his effort but the results are more miss than hit.
I like Bam Knight as well but I think he gets cut so hoping for PS.
Love Burch and Fehoko.

If we make any moves I hope it’s a trade either swapping players player for a pick or exchange of picks.
That way you get the player you want ( need) rather than hope something falls in your lap.

When it comes to need IMO, it is to get an experienced CB. While I really like the guys we have, they have very little experience.

1 - I think the critical count is 53 + the 6 veteran players. Of the 17 PS players only 6 players with more than 2 years experience are allowed.

4 - Clark is what Clark is. Late 6th round pick. Not a starter, but above par for what you can expect from a 5th/6th CB in the league.

5 - XT 100% makes this team. It might be a question if BJ was back at practice. With BJ going to IR, XT makes the team for now.

6 - I disagree with your assessment. 1 player (Fryar) that saw the field on Saturday has a slim chance of seeing action this season. Absolute zero chance for any other. I have Fryar as #10 on the DC and he might get pushed up due to Christian Jones’ injury.

7 - I think 4 TEs will make the 53.

10 - agree

11 - agree

12 - Hall’s flexibility could be a key to solving the roster numbers in the secondary

13 - He is going to the PS

14 - do not see it. He’s far from XT.

I just saw that Bill Barnwell of ESPN predict that Ossenfort could trade for Quentin Johnston from the Chargers. (https://www.espn.com/nfl/story/_/id...025-team-offers-players-draft-picks-contracts) Personally, I would guess another first-round pick is more likely, as Jahan Dotson is no sure thing to survive camp with the Eagles. It is not long ago that Drew Terrell was his position coach in Washington, and spoke very highly of Dotson. I also think he is a better fit than Johnston.

Anyway, I agree with you that it is worth to take a chance with Cooper.

I think the player-for-player approach is becoming more and more normal, and I trust Ossenfort to protect his draft picks. I think that the Cards will cut players that other teams can use, so it could be a great option to improve if you could swap them with another player.

I only agree half. Fryer didn't play much against the Raiders, and my guess is that means he is on the final 53. I do think, however, that some of the others might play during the season. Last season, Jackson Barton started on the practice squad, yet played in four games during the season. Charlie Heck also started on the practice squad, but played in seven games. It happens.

14 - do not see it. He’s far from XT.
I don't think so. Brown played significantly better than Thomas for the first two preseason games, and it is not like Thomas was extremely much superior to Brown against the Raiders. Sure, the flashes that Thomas showed in the last game was very impressive, but he is too inconsistent.
