Sorry for the late column. My wife and I had an emergency after the immigration service late last week denied us to live together here in Denmark, and instead expelled my wife and children for at least three months, and so I did not have energy to write this column (or to even watch the game). We immediately appealed whether they can stay during the overall appeal process, but had given up, until yesterday – literally 1.5 hour before deadline – we finally got the phone call we had been waiting for since Saturday. We won the appeal, and they have been granted permission to stay for now. All that to say that I decided to watch the game today, and then see how my preseason form is.

Ground rules:

I am not going to mention various versions of “well, he did it against 2- or 3 stringers in this column, or the next two, for a couple of reasons.
  • We all know it.
  • They are 2- or 3-stringers themselves, and thus are playing against equal level players (at least in theory).
  • The opponents would be willing to sell their first-born to make a play, so Cards-players are still being highly challenged.

--------------------

1 – I guess we all worry about the right side of the offensive line. Well, Isaiah Adams and Jonah Williams did very well.

2 – I have to give it to L.J. Collier. Throughout the entire offseason I have seen him as a surefire cut, if not a trade candidate. But he stepped up bigtime.

3 – Xavier Weaver continues to justify the hype. Probably best player on offense.

4 – I looked forward to see Elijah Jones in a game. I don’t look forward to see Elijah Jones in the next game.

5 – Jordan Burch have the making of a stud. Many on this board was mad that they drafted him, but you’ll see how he makes a lot of plays in the regular season (or how I look like a fool, but let’s not go there yet.) Easily the best player on the defense.

6 – It sucks that I deleted my point about Darren Hall from my pre-training camp column. Oh well, it is in several of my columns from last preseason. Point is that he is one a my guys, and again today you saw why.

7 – How is Owen Pappoe still on the roster?

8 – Who is that #41-guy on the edge rush? Turns out it is Elliot Brown. Pure speed rusher, but man, did he affect the plays.

9 – So, Kei’Trel Clark is still bad, huh?

10 – Jammie Robinson (he’s a safety) certainly put some wow-plays on tape. Not that they were fantastic plays, but definitely remarkable. Fun player.

Hi Gandi, I am so sorry about your family. That is horrible. Of course, that happens every day in the US. I am almost ashamed to be an American over the current government policies and overly harsh tactics. I wish you and your family the best.

It’s frightening to know we all share one constantly shrinking planet and can’t find a way to live together in peace. We need to somehow figure out that everyone should be entitled to enough food to eat and a decent place to live. Your plight further saddens me as you’re in a country that should still recall their heroic predecessors protecting those who needed a safe place to stay. Those who don’t study history are doomed to repeat its tragedies and there seems to be very little attention being paid to history these days.

I heartedly agree with most of this. Liked the responders choice of Brissett. Burch is going to be a big time player.

Thank you for all the thoughts, everyone. It truly gives a warm feeling.

Status is that our lives will be much calmer while the appeal process is going on, which is expected to be about eight months. That means that our children can continue going to Danish school with their friends. After that, if we get a yes, things are great. If we get a no, chances are that we get the hell out of this country, and instead move to Peru. I say it in that aggressive way because it feels like the country doesn't want us here. I am ashamed of the system, and I am ashamed of being associated with it because I am Danish. I feel terrible for my wife and children that they have to go through this. It feels like borderline racism. We are in Denmark because of my health and the need to be connected to health resources here. I think it is unfair to throw us into uncertainty in another country.

Anyway, I apologize for making this political post. I just wanted to update you all.

About the column, I didn't even notice that I wrote "15." Sorry about that. My mistake.

Just adding my two cents as a Danish citizen with a foreign wife myself - have no issues however. Maybe yet as my wife and I are expats in SEA.

The way the systems works is completely fu****. Have several friends in my network having issues.

Seems to me that the laws has been tweaked so much to limit MENAPT immigration, but because you cannot make rules based on race and religion it causes issues for many others where there should be zero issues.

That must of felt like your world was falling apart! Glad to hear your family is together on the appeal. Take care of yourself!!! Know that your articles make a difference in our lives. I look forward to you insights each week and I've been through major health issues too. Your writing made a difference as I love football.

You never need to apologize for caring about a family’s sanctity.
