“Nothing is better” – Joe Cole explains why “fantastic” Chelsea star is one of club’s most important players

Joe Cole has claimed Nicolas Jackson is one of Chelsea’s most important players following their win in the Conference League on Thursday night.

The Blues put one foot in the final with a convincing 4-1 win in Sweden against Djurgarden ahead of a huge game with Liverpool on Sunday.

Jadon Sancho and Noni Madueke both scored in the first half, whilst Jackson added a brace in the second, but Chelsea couldn’t keep a clean sheet.

Cole on importance of Jackson

It was a good night all round for the Blues, with Maresca handing a debut to 16-year-old midfielder Reggie Walsh late on.

The Blues have paid the price for not signing an alternative to Jackson last summer or in January, but it appears the 23-year-old has now found a bit of form.

Jackson hadn’t scored since December, but after his exploits on Thursday night he’s now scored three goals in his last two games, and seems to be coming into form right at the time Chelsea need him to.

Speaking after the game former Blue Cole believes the Senegal international is one of Chelsea’s most important players.

“What I would say about Jackson is he’s made himself one of Chelsea’s most important players,” he told TNT Sports.

“Because he does this, he doesn’t give up. He’s hard work. He’s aggressive. All the things, he might not be as measured as other players, but he gives you this.

“Nothing is better when you’re behind him as a midfielder when you’ve got a centre-forward who will chase down everything. It’s fantastic.”

Chelsea still looking to sign striker

The Blues are still in the market for a striker to compete with Jackson and it’s vital they make the right decision this summer.

They’ve been strongly linked with Liam Delap, who’d cost £30m, whilst Benjamin Sesko and Hugo Ekitike are said to be on their shortlist.

Jackson has improved this season, but he could really benefit from competition for his place and a more experienced striker to learn from.

It will be interesting to see who the Blues end up signing, and it’s possible they could have a striker in place before the Club World Cup starts in mid June.
