The WNBA preseason is here, and already the league's trademark intensity is on display as the 2025 regular season draws ever closer.
For the rookies of The W, the short preseason is an opportunity to come to grips with the league's pace and physicality. Paige Bueckers, the #1 overall pick of the Dallas Wings, scored 10 points in 22 minutes in a loss to the Las Vegas Aces on Friday -- and fans now are eagerly awaiting the debut of the 2025 draft's second overall pick, Dominique Malonga.
However, Malonga's debut is going to have to wait a little while longer.
The Seattle Storm have ruled Malonga out of Sunday's preseason opener against the Connecticut Sun, as the 19-year-old only arrived in the United States from France on Saturday.
Malonga joins center Ezi Magbegor, forward Gabby Williams and injured guard Katie Lou Samuelson on the list of absences for the Storm's one and only preseason game. Seattle opens the regular season on May 17, with a road game against the Phoenix Mercury.
Malonga's arrival in the WNBA has been anticipated for years, ever since she went viral for a dunk she performed as a 16-year-old in France. The 6'6'' forward/center has been likened to compatriot and San Antonio Spurs phenom Victor Wembanyama due to her athleticism, her frame, and her scoring touch.
During the 2024-25 season playing for Lyon in the Ligue Féminine de Basketball, Malonga averaged 15.5 points and 10.3 rebounds per game while shooting 53 percent from the field, offering a window into her tantalizing potential.

For those of you wondering where Dominique Malonga is, she posted this on her IG story.
I can see why she’s out for tomorrow’s game. Will be in the US for less than 24 hours before the Storms first pre season game. pic.twitter.com/ghNCsnGHcG
