Suns @ Lakers Wednesday game thread 3-22-2023

Ross needs to be glued to the bench. Every time he enters a game the opposition goes on a run.

I also prefer Craig starting over Okogie. I think Craig is a better outside shooter and a better defender against bigger forwards. Craig also is less prone to going "hero mode" than Okogie. Okogie had a nice run of hot play in February but he's been a terrible shooter outside of that stretch...

Giannis had his knee move in a similarly wrong direction in the 2021 playoffs and he didn't miss much time. It looks ugly but knee ligaments are more forgiving when moving fore and aft than to the left or right. He might be okay. Obviously there are limits to the forgiveness... Willis...

We are arguing in circles about something that is a hypothetical long in the future but, no, there is zero upside to bottoming out before 2029, it would accelerate nothing.

I don't know what to say. Shipping off Booker to a contender for late round picks, while simultaneously, turning us into probably the worst team in the NBA while having no control over our own picks would be, unquestionably, one of the biggest follies in NBA history. It won't happen. If it...

You sure as hell don't let him walk for nothing. You keep him. I kept bringing up "opportunity cost". What we're talking about is the opportunity cost. The options we have to avoid totally bottoming out are few and will require some really savvy moves by the front office. That is our...

There is no scenario where we can completely rebuild by 2029, trading Booker, would merely ensure that we are in total ruin.

It's going to be very difficult to keep this team as a competitor through the end of the decade but we have to try, if we give up sooner than that it makes the Durant trade an act of self defeating insanity. Flat out, full stop, I cannot emphasize enough... it would be insane to hit the reset...

Booker's contract ends in 2028, if we're trading him for anything of value he's gotta go in 2027. The Nets control our pick in 2027, 28 and 29. Rebuilding prior to 2029 serves no purpose.

No. I cannot possibly disagree more. I think even @cheesebeef would side with me on this one. Trading away Booker and rebuilding is flat out NOT an option until we're done sending the Nets our picks. Period. You don't do a full rebuild when you don't have your own draft picks, it is completely...

I don't see any chance in hell that a trade of Booker would make up for the assets we lost for Durant, in all likelihood, it would only compound the deficit. Booker would be in his prime, likely going to a contender... at which point, we would STILL owe the Nets picks. We would be one of the...

If we have to trade Booker before his contract is up we are likely giving the nets several top five picks. That would unquestionably make this one of the worst trades in NBA history.

The cupboard is bare. The Nets wanted no part of Ayton. Unless he steps up his game, I don't see us getting anything but role players in return for him. We don't have a draft day pick until 2024 and that pick had damn well better not have much value or things have already gone horrendously...

We're all speculating. I don't think Booker needs to ruin his reputation. Guys fought to join Booker when we had a bunch of young talent around him and were an up and coming team. I don't think Booker surrounded by scrubs is going to be a team guys fight to join. Furthermore, we only got...

I don't think Booker will have the same pull if in 3 years from now he is still ringless and surrounded by scrubs and the ever mercurial, DeAndre Ayton. I'm glad Sarver's gone, but my first taste of Ishbia "not being idle" is not a good one. He can be as ambitious as possible, but it won't...

If we win a title or 2, I could see some another star forcing their way in, probably through free agency when the cap goes up, but if we don't win a title, I don't see anyone fighting to join an aging Suns team with no assets and a history of falling short. Really, I think we need to win it...

The picks on the back end of the deal have a strong chance to be very juicy. The Nets have a team of small forwards right now, they need a point guard. Dinwiddle is trying to fill the role and he's terrible at it. They've also had a brutal stretch of the schedule. And besides, the Nets did...

Suns updates and discussion for the 2022-23 season

I disagree. Most title winners have a very good 1-5 and a few high quality guys off the bench. You look at the contenders this year, Bucks, Celtics, Nuggets... their starting 5s don't have any real weakness and they have some real quality on the bench. Same with the title winning Warriors...

No matter what, we need to get better at scouting and drafting. The Lakers do a lot of stupid stuff but one thing they do well is find usable players in the 2nd round... which they have to, because they constantly trade all their 1st round picks. I would not be surprised if their scouting...

Anyone trading for Paul isn't trading for Paul the player, they're trading to dump a bunch of cap space using his option. I don't see an Ayton trade helping us, even as inconsistent as he is. I don't like the idea of making the team even older. Someone would have to overpay to make it worth it...

It kicks in just before free agency. I expect us to either trade him around draft time or we will likely keep him all of next season. Like Gator said, an underwater contract is the most likely return. Gordon Hayward, Duncan Robinson, maaaaaaybe John Collins but I don't think Atlanta dump him...

    Gladiator 2

The version of Gladiator 2 that I heard was in production hell for the last 2 years had Maximus going full "Quantam Leap"... bouncing around history as some angelic warrior, fixing ancient wrongs. I reeeeeeeeeally hope they've thrown that idea into the garbage.
