Suns updates and discussion for the 2023-24 season

It's the "James Jones" approach: you don't need guards or centers as long as you have an endless supply of likable, only fair to middling semi-athletic 6-5 to 6-7 guys, who can occasionally hit a three and have good back stories.

    AYTON TRADED!

Seriously, the dude plays like he's stoned out of his gourd. You can almost hear the dialogue in his head: "Wait... what just happened?" about 1.5 seconds after the play.

Actual Vogel defensive scheme: Beal/Gordon on Edwards, Nurkic on Towns, Okogie/Watanabe on Gobert.

Ray Anderson Is Resigning - he's gone !!

Good bleeping riddance! Maybe Herm can get him a job at ESPN. Quid pro quo and all that.

James Jones can go fly a kite. He's been one of the most overrated front office guys in the league for most of his tenure. He only got the job because he was buddies with Lebron, and he would work for Sarver bucks.

The consistency of fourth quarter meltdowns pretty much screams bad coaching. How your team handles crunch time is what separates competent from incompetent coaches.

All wings and very little else. Sounds like a James Jones roster to me.

But they have three guys who think they are stars.

So when do we get around to admitting to ourselves that Vogel is just a very pedestrian coach? I know he has that flukey Lakers championship , but everything I've seen so far looks like not particularly competent at running an offense or defense, managing a lineup, or making effective adjustments.

We don't need someone who has to be in there at the close of a game when Booker and Beal are available. But we do need someone who can play the point when one (or both) of those guys are injured and/or otherwise unavailable. Goodwin or Gordon aren't cutting it in that role, as we have all...

Well, in theory, we should have a pretty easy route to advance. Aside from the Lakers, those are all pretty terrible teams.

Also, no one else seems to be having that much trouble containing Wembanyama. Of course, most of them aren't trying to use Eric Gordon to guard him, either.

It seems to me that's our greatest problem. Booker can handle some of that when he's healthy, but you need someone off the bench when he's not playing, or even to run along side him at times.

Spurs getting creamed again tonight. Two of their three wins are against us, and they have pretty much looked like garbage against everyone else they have played.

Agree with all of this. So far, it's looking like maybe there might have been some good reasons why the Lakers dumped him just one year later after winning a title. As for the roster, I know our hands were tied to some extent as far as who we could bring in. But once again, I have to question...

    Suns @ 76ers Saturday game thread, 11-4-2023

Agreed. Even if it was mutually decided both sides needed to move on, they really needed to do something to maximize what they could get for him. In fact, that should have begun at least a season ago. But Monty (and maybe Jones, too) seemingly would rather get in pissing matches with the guys...

Until he's 100 years old? Because they're already doing that with Beal.

    Suns @ 76ers Saturday game thread, 11-4-2023

By the time they decide Beal is "healthy" enough to play, the Suns might be looking up at a 6-10 record. It really is starting to appear that beyond their "big three," the rest of the roster isn't all that good.

    2023-24 Around the NBA Thread

NBA refs have literally just started making up their own rules on the fly the last few years. Pretty soon they'll be overturning traveling, ball out of bounds, star players clobbering non-star players with folding chairs, etc. because they "didn't impact the play." Literal WWE poo.

That certainly seems to be the attitude they are operating under so far, from the front office to the coaching to the players on the floor... "We're not going to 'really try' until we're in the conference finals."

I would add that I am beginning to wonder whether Nurkic will be more of a liability than asset as the season goes on. He's looked pretty bad since the opener.
