Well, it would basically be a one-year contract, so the salary cap would matter in that instance. Of the perceived options, only the Jets would have a little trouble fitting it in. Las Vegas have even more available space than the Cards, and neither the Titans nor Giants are far behind. And I...

Good call, WC, and I think it goes for several teams. The Raiders, the Titans, the Giants. And by all accounts, next year’s rookie class is probably better, so don’t you think that most of their fans would be excited about trying to go for the jackpot with Murray, and if it doesn’t work, well...

No no, I mean it. I think he ended well in Chicago, and I didn’t understand why they benched him in Pittsburgh immediately when Wilson was ready. As I mentioned, I think he is the best bet on having a revival like Mayfield or Darnold.

No, I agree. I think that Fields have proven to be a good NFL quarterback, and I certainly think he still haven’t reached his full potential. I would not mind going into the next season with him as the starter. I am ready. :D

I think the potential is obvious, Daves. Murray’s highs are very high. I believe it was Bill Walsh (I am not sure about that, though) who have said to judge a player by his best play, and then it is up to the coaches to get it out of him. Now, he said it in regard to draftable players, but I...

He will not pay 33 million. A new team will do that. They will only go as a cap hit, but the salary cap is just an accounting tool. Bidwill would save money by trading him, and the dead money cap hit is very manageable. I hear you. I would go after Justin Fields. I think that he is the best bet...

I actually think that is a good argument, DD. I have thought several times how Baker Mayfield must be such a great quarterback to have. Not because he is perfect, but because he is a great leader as he gives absolutely everything he has. Just last week he made a big block to help his runner, and...

I don’t doubt at all that they are there, Slanidrac. In fact, I think that he is very tradable. First, his new team will only be on the hook for his 33 million-salary in 2025 as there will be no guarantees left after that year for a new team (that language is in the contract). That is not at all...

I don’t know about that, GC. If Murray is on the roster on the fifth day of next league year, over 39 million from 2026 becomes fully guaranteed. But if traded after this season, his cap hit for the Cards would be 33 million, while Michael Bidwill would actually 11 million in cash. In other...

1 – Season’s over. 2 – Many say that the Cards are ahead of schedule in their rebuild, as a reason to not be too upset that they will again lose out on the playoffs. Bulls***! I want to win, and I want to win now. This sucks. 3 – When is Prater coming back? 4 – Good that the draft will be...

    10 thoughts - Vikings game

I have read different takes on it, and one of them is that by going up by six, it forced the Vikings to play aggressively and with big urgency on the last drive, because they could not live with a field goal. It is likely that they would not dare to go for it on the fourth down you mention, if...

Yes, and I could see Jimmy Haslam going a long way to get him. Vrabel would have to bring in an impressive offensive coaching staff, though, because obviously Haslam also wants something out of his major investment in Watson (that he will be paying for several years ahead).

I agree, PJ. I think that Thompson has been good throughout the season, but he was not impressive in this game. On the other hand, Taylor-Demerson have been a bright spot. I once saw an analysis about how important the safety-spot was for Gannon’s scheme in Philly, so maybe that is why he wanted...

    10 thoughts - Vikings game

I actually think they will keep him, but their remaining schedule is brutal, so they might very well go 0-6 the rest of the way, and thus 3-14 on the season. Further, obviously Stefanski has not yet been able to make it work with Deshaun Watson, and I could see the owner wanting to bring in...

I agree, Oaken, even though I doubt that it will happen. Gannon seems like a guy who believes a lot in his own guys. Personally, I am looking at the Browns. Kevin Stefanski – their head coach – have a long relationship with Gannon (and Petzing) and is known as a great offensive coach. I think...

    10 thoughts - Vikings game

1 – This loss hurts more than last week. 2 – Sure, Murray took some bad decisions, but this is still my favorite version. It seems obvious to me that he is being controlled by the system. That he is not trying to freestyle and be a superman, but rather plays within the structure – unlike last...

Really? I haven’t seen all, but I don’t feel like Joe Burrow, Mahomes, Jared Goff have costed multiple games? Justin Herbert? I mean, sure they have bad plays, but that big mistakes?

I think many people feel like you, Bach. I guess I just don’t see it as a bad thing to be a game manager, and specifically in the case of Kyler Murray, I have been excited to see how well he performs when he is kind of only executing the system. I feel like we as viewers can see and sense that...

I don’t know, Red. I have seen the video with Warner, but I am not sure I agree with his assessment. As I see it, there is a window in which Murray looks in Harrison’s direction and has time to throw the ball. Not saying Warner is wrong. I just don’t see it.

    10 thoughts - Seahawks game

In the opener in Buffalo, with about a minute left, he missed a completely open Marvin Harrison who could have walked backwards into the endzone for the game winner. Anyway, it has not always been on his own, but as a quarterback he is obviously highly involved. Especially in the blowouts...

    10 thoughts - Seahawks game

He's not a rookie anymore - not even in this system. The top 5-7 quarterbacks have very, very few bad games where they cost their team the victory, and Murray has already had several this season. It is not an overreaction to evaluate him after this many games.

Sadly, you are right, Stout. The best quarterbacks carry their team. They make them better on bad days. I think that is why it is very important that Murray is in a good system, but that obviously also shows limits. An advanced game manager?

    10 thoughts - Seahawks game

I just looked it up. Next year Thompson will count almost 14 million against the cap (or nearly 5%). I always argue that the salary cap is not important due to inflation in the cap, cap manipulation, and restructuring. However, you also cannot ignore the salary cap because that would give...

    10 thoughts - Seahawks game

1 – I almost never complain about playcalls since the difference between success or failure is most often a matter inches. I do, however, complain about gameplanning. Petzing got outsmarted. End of discussion. 2 – Worst game this season by the interior offensive line. Total destruction. 3 –...

Offense and O-line analysis - Week 12 vs. Seahawks (L)

Thank you for this great post, Bach. Could I ask you to talk a little about Paris Johnson? I think he has had issues in pass blocking all season, and that he loses several one-on-ones. I know that you wrote about him in your bye week-analysis, but I feel like it is not being talked about much.
