Our CB room is pretty damn atrocious lol let’s not overthink this.

- A CB that hasn’t played real ball since 2018 & was already falling off before that.

- A CB in his 3rd year that hasn’t fully turned on the switch just yet.

- A CB that is a rookie who had inconsistent college tape & while played solid in preseason, went against QBs like Ben DiNucci & Shane Buchele. I have hope, but let’s relax.

It was already bad with Butler, but eesh, this is just another level.
Yeah. It's hilarious how fast people turned from "Actually, Malcolm Butler is better than Patrick Peterson" to "Malcolm Butler is Actually Bad and Easily Replaced."

Because the Cards were bad, people don't remember thatt Byron Murphy was extremely bad his rookie season. It's part of the reason he carries a lot of baggage after an okay second year.

That is a STUNNING indictment of how much we've neglected the position and is in no way a good thing.

Uh huh.

Utter bunk. Sorry Jetstream, but if you're in the middle of something personal that's so impactful you're contemplating retirement, the absolute last thing on your mind is scrubbing your freaking social media accounts of your current team. You would expect him to do so eventually, once life settles down for him, IF he does retire, but not in the midst of whatever the crisis is.

The more I read, the more suspicious I become. If Joseph's toying with the starters by pretending Alford is going to be our starter caused this, then to hell with Joseph and to hell with Butler for the butthurt response.
Regardless of what we believe might be the reason, the Cards better have some contingency plan to at least off set this no matter how minor the success before three games into the season finally prompts them to act. If it is because of personal pride and not being a starter, then you do not need that attitude floating about your locker room, when you already have a guy like Hicks in the vicinity who might still be harboring ego sentiments about starting

Exactly. This may end up going badly, but stats showed Butler was better than Peterson last year.

I don't really think you can get on Keim too much for this one.

Don’t want to speculate without knowing the situation, but Kennard’s comments at the bottom of this article are telling to say the least.
kind of surprising "butler isnt part of the conversation" with Butler only missing two practices. Im guessing Kennard is lying to the media, there is no way the players/staff arent talking about it

the Cards are far better with a (motivated) Butler than not.

its further proof we (I?) live in a simulation designed to subtly torment: literally the one non-QB position group where the Cards couldnt afford to lose a starter and they lose one to...........something? A torn acl or someting i can understand. This???

His $3.5m is guaranteed. I'm guessing he's mad about not starting, but wants his release...Cards are asking for $ back and he's saying no, thus forcing his retirement hand. If he retires, he keeps his money, but Cards put him on Reserved/Retired list and hold his rights and he can't sign anywhere else. If they release him, he keeps his money, but can go wherever he wants and double dip, unless there was any offset language in his contract with Cards. Butler holds the $, but Cards hold his future career.

$2.175m of it was a signing bonus and he's never played a snap. They would claim that back and win in court easily.

The rest is surely only guaranteed for retirement. Only cut and injury.

I doubt Butler would keep a cent.

Butler can be better than Peterson AND easily replaced.

At least I'm in the "Malcolm Butler was always bad but now the alternatives are even worse" camp. Coulda had Steven Nelson.

Gambo just said on air that Murphy and Wilson will be the starting CBs with Alford as the 3rd. They must really like what they are seeing out of the kid. We still certainly need depth is Butler walks away.

Well if Marco Wilson turns into a viable starter at the CB position that’s going to be quite a coup considering where he was drafted… We can only hope that would be awesome our team is due for a pick like that…

Looking forward to seeing more Marco Wilson.

Wilson has all the elite physical traits to play corner and gets to practice vs Nuk, Green, Kirk, Moore etc
