I don’t blame him at all in that spot, the game was really tightly officiated outside of a few missed holds but I love the way he finished that play. Get him on the field.

The penalty sucked but it came AFTER a complete breakdown on 3rd and 13. Folk would be good from 60 considering our luck.
He really needs to work on wrapping up the opposing players instead of slamming his body into others as a form of tackling.

I just don't see how that's a penalty. No helmet to helmet contact and Cam was still inbounds when the hit happened.

Completely legal and a horseshit call period! One of the few gifts handed to the Pats today!

I have never seen Cam Newton get obliterated like that. Simmons is a beast, and F the refs.

Yeah, it wasn't a penalty. Cam was a runner and inbounds. Simmons led with his shoulder and the contact was incidental. Bad call at a key time.

But they already picked up the first and this defense wasn’t stopping anyone b
It was a penalty because Newton was goin out of bounds and essentially giving himself up and Simmons blasted him as he was going out of bounds instead of just giving him a push. They will throw a flag on that every time especially since it was a QB. Stupid decision by Simmons.

It was at (near) the first down marker. Like goal lines, you go hard to protect it.

NFL rules are dictating that the only type of defenders you can have on the field are guys 5'6 and under in order to avoid helmet to helmet contact.

That is not accurate. He is no longer a QB at that point and is no longer protected as such.

I re-watched that play over and over again to revel how hard he hit Cam. It was beautiful and I was absolutely not mad about that hit at all. Keep playing hard like that, rook!

You're exactly right. I thought the same exact thing. The ball carrier lowered his head just as Simmons was about to tackle him. I mean, what was he supposed to do, just let him run right by & not even try to tackle him? The NFL needs to seriously enforce this rule. It was said last season that offensive players would get flagged for doing that but it's hardly ever called.
