And, as the last game, the Mercury is off to a sluggish start,
down 27-17 early in the 2nd quarter.

Last game they turned it on and won in the 4th quarter.

Could that be the team's approach, versus trying to go
all out for 4 quarters?

Too many turnovers, and can’t hit shots.

Uh oh, The Merc are down 42-23 at the half.

If they are getting into a groove of playing catchup,
it is going to catch up with them.

Sandy needs to get them to play hard from the start.

The announcers and analysts are all saying the same thing.

The Mercury played a late game a couple of day ago.

But the other WNBA teams are playing similar schedules.
In the huddle, the Seattle coach acknowledged that her
players are tired, too.

With DT at age 38, it is really up to Griner to take the
next step and become a difference maker. Something
she has never done and may not be capable of doing.

That will be a factor, not just this season, but after
Diana retires.

The starters back in at the 9:10 mark of the 4th quarter, down by 18 points

Skylar Diggins Smith has been a big disappointment. I would rather have kept Dewanna Bonner.

Diana injures her back with 4:51 left in the game. Uh oh!

And no DeWanna Bonner to step up for her, as she had so many times in the past.

As I posted at the beginning of the season, DB was the difference maker. My
favorite Mercury player of all time.

She led the team repeatedly in rebounding, even over Griner. She scored and
assisted, especially when Diana was not available. And she defended four
positions on the court.

Today's game makes it clear that the Mercury have no chance at a 4th WNBA
Championship. Everything -- everything -- would have had to be perfect for
that to happen.

I still love the Mighty Mercury and will root for them, even when rebuilding
becomes prevalent.

And when I go to the Arena, whether for the Suns, Mercury or a concert, when
I see their three Championship banners on the wall (vs. zero for the Suns)
and knowing the D-backs have just one, I will be appreciative of the Mercury.

My new favorite, Sophie Cunningham, draws the foul to cut it to 4, but Seattle sends it back to 6.
Schuyler with a turnover, then the Seattle lead is back to 8.

The Mercury lose by 6 in a low scoring game. 74-68. They scored only 7 points in the 2nd quarter.

I like how we came back, but man what a frustrating game to watch. So many missed layups and close shots. I really hope Diana is gonna be okay.

I doubt she plays today, unfortunately. Glad it’s not related to her 2019 back injury.
