The MLB umpires union just released this statement, which reads in part: "The MLBUA fully supports the health and safety protocols... Regardless of any umpire's personal views... we will conduct ourselves as professionals and in accordance with the health and safety protocol."

As a casual fan of baseball , the season should be cancelled. Especially here in AZ. I have zero faith that anyone in leadership here could put a plan together to keep fans, society and players safe. Baseball and baseball watching is not essential. Forget about it this year and have a plan for next.

The Astros have canceled today's workout at Minute Maid Park after they "were alerted that a staff member was potentially exposed to a COVID-positive individual outside the organization." The team is calling it a "precautionary measure."

That it's optional for HP umpires to wear protective masks underneath their regular masks is presumably a simple case of oversight. It'd make no sense for players/staffers to adhere closely to safety/health protocol -- but then have HP umps breath freely into catchers, hitters.
