Cardinals will open training facility Tuesday with limited staff

The Cardinals will reopen their training facility with a “very limited number” of staff on Tuesday, Darren Urban of the team website reports.

Most Cardinals’ employees, including the coaching staff, will continue to work remotely.

As part of the NFL’s “Phase 1” reopening, most teams will meet the guidelines announced by NFL Commissioner Roger Goodell on Friday. The Broncos have announced they will wait until the week of May 25 to reopen, and the teams in New Jersey and California are among those not yet receiving approval under state and local regulations.

The NFL will allow teams no more than 50 percent of their staff to return to the building and no more than 75 employees beginning Tuesday.

Coaches remain prohibited, and the only players allowed are those who are rehabbing.

What does this mean for the players? Is it just about getting the facility ready for the team whenever they are allowed to report?

What it means is the NFL is using teams low level employees to be guinea pigs to see if any catch the virus. After a little while if there are no major issues the facilities will be opened for everyone.

Equity has always been paramount, so this thinking makes some sense.

With NFL facilities starting to reopen tomorrow, I was told over the weekend that the thinking in the league right now is that coaches will not return until all facilities are open. Right now, approximately 10 can not reopen because of local stay-at-home laws.

I think this could be a problem as there are some governors that are livid about opening anything for the next several months. I'm not saying this is right or wrong but for the NFL to really have a season this fall some teams will have to have their training camps and games in different locations. Bottom line is the NFL may have to change their policy on this.

or that they are preparing the facilities to match with NFL and CDC guidelines before letting lots of people come in.

How long will it be, before we read the following?

"Reports out of Foxboro say that at the Patriots' facility, three or four assistant trainers were seen having a catch during their lunch break and that one of the trainers looked pretty good. But upon closer inspection it was revealed that one of the trainers was QB, Jarrett Stidham, along with a couple of NE WR's. Story broke when the media, probably in jest, who were kept at a good distance away, said that guy looks good and the team should sign him."

When asked to comment, Bill Belichick said that he knew nothing about it, and that he was mostly concerned about the defensive side of the ball. :)
