A quick look at the last super bowl and of the 10 offensive line starters, 4 were round 1 picks

3 of the 4 starting OTs in the Superbowl were first round picks

in the conf champ games, i think it was 6 of 8

of the two non first rounders, one was Mitchell Schwartz, taken 37th and the other was David Bakhtiari, taken in the 4th round

Talking tackles, not interior
more fun facts for a Sunday morning:

of the 12 playoff teams (24 starting OTs): 17 were 1st round picks (71%)

of the 7 that weren't 1st rounders: 5 of them were top half of the 2nd round picks

Half the playoff teams started 2 1st rounders at OT

only one team didn't start a 1st rounder at OT: Buffalo, whose OTs were taken in the top of the 2nd round

while correlation doesn't = causation:

it sure seems like if you want a playoff caliber offensive tackle, you better get them in the first 45 picks of the draft

so: is that different than the bottom 12 teams?

of those 24 starting OTs: 6 first rounders (25%)

of the 18 others: 4 2nd round picks.

also, while i didnt keep track: far higher incidence of UDFAs and late round picks.

so there you go.
