From the same article it sounds like Zak Hill will not be coaching the Sun Devils in the bowl game.

Offensive line coach Dave Christensen and running backs coach Shaun Aguano are expected to share offensive coordinator duties during ASU's bowl game.

So should we expect to average 36 points per game next year? Boise State style?

I hope so. Herm has said a successful college team needs to score in the thirties almost every week.

Looks like a great hire on paper, but I feel like every Boise State team has a great offense regardless who is OC. He runs a pro-style offense, which makes sense given Herm's NFL model style approach. Hopefully Hill can maximize Daniels potential, because we know Likens wouldn't have come close.

Hmm... well, the defensive side of the ball was generally more consistent under DG than the offense was under Likens. But they had their ups and downs, too. Here's hoping Herm can find a superior replacement.

It sounds like the Sun Devils may fill the defensive coordinator position from within.

A good chance Herm Edwards will promote from within to replace Gonzales. LB coach Antonio Pierce or DB coach Tony White. If White isn't promoted, he could end up as Gonzales' DC. Those two are close. Although money could be a factor.

Going to be AP. He fits the mold of the NFL model Herm is trying to incorporate.

Losing Danny hurts some but isn't end of days. It will be interesting to see who gets the position and what kind of defense they deploy.

Another move by ASU to upgrade its ability to recruit in Southern California, hiring Chris Hawkins from USC as our new DB coach, making him the youngest assistant coach at a power 5 school per Azcentral.

https://www.azcentral.com/story/spo...s-hawkins-join-asu-football-staff/2770683001/

Hawkins adds yet another connection to the fertile recruiting ground of Southern California, having excelled as a prep All-American in 2012 at Rancho Cucamonga High School.

"I am very excited to announce to appointment of Chris Hawkins as defensive backs coach at ASU. Chris impressed myself, Tony White, Antonio Pierce and Marvin Lewis as a young, up-and-coming coach who has a very bright future in our profession," Coach Herm Edwards said, a statement released by the school. "Chris played the position at an elite level at USC and the young players in our secondary will benefit from his knowledge and experience. Chris will be instrumental in recruiting Southern California for us as well."

Herm Edwards' contract has been extended for another two seasons. Solid move. He has the program headed in the right direction.

ASU announces that it has extended coach Herm Edwards' contract for two years through 2024, which gives Edwards a five-year agreement, the maximum the state allows. Extension subject to approval from Arizona Board of Regents.

Tough loss for Sun Devils. Jamar Cain, defensive line coach, will leave ASU for Oklahoma.

Losing a hell of a recruiter. It's not only recruits you have to worry about losing to bigger programs, you have to worry about coaches who can bring in those recruits as well. Hopefully, Herm can find a new up and coming recruiter to replace Cain.

I certainly hope Herm can bring in a capable replacement. It seems the hire occurred so late in the process.

Herm should take pro model to next level and bring in Eric Allen to coach DBs and Darren Woodson to coach LBs. Kids and parents would be in awe having these guys in their homes on recruiting visits.

Kids wouldn’t know who those are.

Rob Likens was just hired by Manny Diaz at U of Miami as the WR coach. Joins the new staff led by OC Rhett Lashlee.

https://www.sun-sentinel.com/sports...0200207-mcnexalfzfdqniwnvgrpfitlp4-story.html

“We are excited to welcome Rob and his family to Coral Gables,” UM coach Manny Diaz said in a statement. “Rob has extensive experience with fast-paced, high-octane offenses and he can serve as a great teacher and motivator to the young men in our receivers room.”

Likens becomes the Hurricanes’ third assistant coach with experience as an offensive coordinator in college football. New offensive coordinator Rhett Lashlee and offensive line coach Garin Justice are the others.

Likens has a background coaching the “Air Raid” offense, which Lashlee is expected to incorporate in a fast-paced, spread-like approach. Likens and Lashlee have never coached together, but they do have a connection to Southern Methodist coach Sonny Dykes in common — Likens was an assistant under Dykes at Louisiana Tech and California for five seasons, while Lashlee was offensive coordinator at SMU the last two seasons."

Arizona State reportedly will hire Robert Rodriguez formerly of the Minnesota Vikings as the defensive line coach.

The Sun Devils reportedly are set to hire Robert Rodriguez as the defensive line coach. He becomes the school's sixth in as many years at that position and replaces Jamar Cain, who departed for a position at Oklahoma.

Rodriguez, 38, spent the last five seasons with the Minnesota Vikings and served as the team's assistant defensive line coach where he worked closely with veteran defensive line coach Andre Patterson.
