Why? Puts us behind early and sets the tone for the game. It also makes me feel sick watching it.

I wondered the same thing. Guess KK likes to play from behind from the get-go?

I'm sure it's and analytics thing.

It’s one thing if you got a dominate defense but if offense is your strong point it makes no sense

Under Arians, we used to take the opening kickoff and then not score.

I'd almost always rather defer, and let the defense set the tone.... except now we can't stop anybody.

Exactly. We make a statement for sure. We suck.

if you defer and the coach is dumb enough to choose to kick after you defer, you get the ball twice at opening halves. I believe it has only happened one time but I would not blame coaches for continuing to defer because of the chance.

Momentum in the second half is more important than momentum in the first. Or so the pointy heads say.

It's a copy the Pats thing. It's their version of 2 for 1 in the NBA, they like to score before halftime and then get the ball to start the 2nd half.

Hey it could be worse, some of us are old enough to remember a coach, I think Tobin(?), who was dumb enough to have the other team defer, and then choose to kick. So we kicked BOTH halves of that game!

See my post below we did that, I think it was Vince Tobin.

I understand the logic if you have a defense. We are just firing up the other team.

Only works if you have a decent D. Otherwise, you have set yourself up to fail.
