They are in cross talk and one of the dudes wants Kyler to run like Jackson. Lame.

Lamar was able to do what he did because the Ravens ran for 225yds. the previous week. We had to stop the run. If our defense simply planned to covers the flanks to stop Lamar the Ravens would have ripped us to pieces running between the tackles. We’ve seen Kyler try some outside runs and there was nowhere to run. Why? Because we have shown no threat or ability to run and force a defense to respect that.

We will not be able to use Kyler’s running ability until we are able to run the ball. Kliff has to be willing to commit to the run. It may not be glitzy but it will pay off in the long run.

Agreed Jackson is much bigger and in a system that allows for him to run without taking tons of big hits. If we ran KM that much he'd get hurt. He just needs to run when it's there to keep the defense honest.

I hope it's just inexperience because he's such a great athlete you have to assume if he starts doing it 3-4 times a game when it's there, it's going to be a huge positive and force teams to worry about it.

Got to have an offensive line that opens up holes and a RB that wants to run

We do have to find a way to commit to the run.

Both games we came out throwing and it backfired.

They need to try and establish the run early to set up Kyler to be able to run/do play action later.

I agree. But good lord you have to try. Eleven attempts? That is not going to cut it. Maybe we need to go to 2 tight end sets. At least it would appear we were going to run. It would make defenses commit to 8 in the box and if they didn’t then we SHOULD be able to run the ball.

It would also open some space for the receivers. Kliff said he will adjust. Well Kliff 2 tight ends still gives you 4 receivers...5 counting your running back.

Agree, but I still don't want Murray taking unnecessary hits. Look at Newton. He'll never have the longevity of Brady or Brees or even Palmer, because he's all beat to poop.

The same fate awaits Lamar Jackson, IMHO.

I want Murray to take "safe" running yardage, unless the game is just absolutely on the line (like the 4th and 1 run call from yesterday).

He's that good of a passer that we need to protect him like he'll play for 15 years. He's as good a passer as Brees.

This is nonsense. Deshaun Watson averaged 7.5 YPA his rookie season. Lamar Miller, Houston's top running back, averaged... 3.7 YPA.

I don't really have a solution to the problem. I think our receivers are clogging the area between 5-12 yards of the line of scrimmage, so Murray just sees a bunch of bodies. He's probably not going to have running lanes until our receivers show that they require more than single coverage.

Same problem as last year in some ways. Pass pro largely doesn't let us stretch field enough OR let routes to develop. Murray's reads are two at most and he's missing (not seeing) some open targets. Teams will continue the pressure and press.
