Jake Lamb is hitting .218. He's been back from injury for quite a while.
I wouldn't want him as my cleanup hitter, but .218? That's horrible!
As marginal a fielder as he is, and I hate to but maybe,
just maybe, his inability to get into a groove at bat is caused by
being unable to settle into a a role.
He starts at 3B. Or he starts at 1B. Or he's on the bench. He's
taken out for defensive purposes at two positions.
If he were a platoon player, especially as a LH hitter, he'd have
a routine. Start most of the games at one position vs. RHP. He'd
know days in advance what his role would be.
They say that people are creatures of habit. There is a comfort
in it. Jake Lamb does not have that comfort. Nor do the other
4 or 5 D-backs who are part of the same guessing game.
But none of the others are hitting .218. That is the point of
this post. As much as Torey tries to please his entire roster,
maybe he is pleasing no one at all.
There is a long history of Major League baseball teams naming
their starters and their bench players, with everyone knowing
their roles.
Sabermetrics is out of control. As a fan, I know that it, especially
with most players stubbornly hitting into the shift, is ruining my
enjoyment of the game.

Another mediocre pitcher coming in here and the dbacks make him look like a Cy young candidate
Check posts 7 and 14. It's .218. Now it's down to .215.I am too lazy to search for it...anyone know what lamb's batting average is these days?
