Ex-NFL QB Jared Lorenzen dead at 38 after battling multiple health issues, family says
Former NFL quarterback Jared Lorenzen died Wednesday at the age of 38 after battling kidney and heart issues as well as an infection, his family announced.

"We are deeply saddened to announce the passing of Jared today," the family of the former New York Giants backup said in a statement Wednesday. "Please keep Jared's family and especially his children, in your thoughts and prayers."

Lorenzen played four seasons with the Kentucky Wildcats before going pro. He held the Wildcats record for most career passing yards with 10,354, and served as a backup quarterback for the Giants from 2006 to 2007.

Lorenzen last played football for the Northern Kentucky River Monsters of the Continental Indoor Football League but a broken leg ultimately ended his career.

It saddens me, as a lifelong Kentucky fan & season ticket holder I enjoyed every moment with him at QB. He still owns so many passing records at UK, the ones he doesn't belong to Tim Couch. He had so many nicknames from other SEC teams. Georgia players used to call him the "Pilsbury Throwboy" he always got a kick out of that one. "Round mound of Touchdown" & so many more. It was always funny watching all those big DL trying to bring him to the ground, it would literally take like 3-4 players to bring him down. His stories were always funny when he would fill in for Matt Jones on Kentucky Sports Radio, he was just on there last week & now he gets sick & passes away. Truly sad, he will be missed. Literally ate himself to death. He was over 500 lbs at times. I have friends from Kentucky that followed his story closely. Phenomenal athlete for a big man. Just a real sad story.
