Diamondbacks free agent center fielder A.J. Pollock has agreed to a deal with the NL West rival Los Angeles Dodgers, reports The Athletic’s Ken Rosenthal.

According to USA Today’s Bob Nightengale, the deal is for five years with escalators and opt-outs. Four of those seasons are guaranteed and so is $55 million in total earnings, Nightengale told Bickley & Marotta Thursday on 98.7 FM Arizona’s Sports Station.

It happened with Gonzo. And the D-backs traded Randy. The two greatest stars in team history did not finish their careers in Phoenix. Ironically, they are both back with the D-backs as ambassadors/employees.

Letting Goldy and Pollock go are sound financial moves for the team's rebuilding at this stage of their careers. Even though it doesn't feel good to the fans.

Hopefully our Dbacks will only play the Dodgers during the 50 games AJ will inevitably miss.

So, one's a retired dog and the other is a Dodger dog... ;)

Yup. One irony is that when Alex went to get AJ (without telling me) he wanted a different puppy, but our friend Benny that went with him liked AJ best. Someone else snatched up the puppy that Alex wanted so they got AJ. Benny is a diehard Dodger Fan. So I guess AJ was destined to be a Doyer

SOP. Look what JD wanted last year and what he signed for.

So happy the Diamondbacks did not sign AJ. Marte is much better.
It seems like +30 year old free agents that sign big contracts actually pan out less than half the time.

Greinke is one of the exceptions.

And you always are waiting for Greinke to realize he is 30+...which is precisely why you trade him for the right deal

I probably think that getting rid of Greinke while we are in contention
for a Wild Card spot would be more demoralizing than helpful.

Giving him away would be giving up. Our hitting is near the top in stats.
Our fielding is good. And our closers Holland and Lopez are excellent,
with Archie showing signs of making a contribution.

From quotes I've read, the D-backs brass is not ready to give up.

I guess it depends who they get in return. I think we need more rotation guys. Weaver and Kelly have both proved to be good additions. It's worse that we keep throwing Clarke out there every few days and decide the day before who is starting. Now we have Bradley starting games.
