Everything in these stats say the D-backs should win this opening game.

If they don't, shame on them! Even with Peralta on the DL.

Go, D-backs! Go for line drives.

... Or maybe not.

To replace Peralta's .309 batting average in LF is LoCastro's .235.

Is that the best we can do? A Minor League callup to replace Peralta?

And, once again, Dyson's team leading on-base-percent of .368 is
benched and replaced by Vargas' .186 batting average.

Vs. lefties, Dyson has an OPB of .500 (including 3 walks)
while Vargas has an OBP of half that -- .250 (with no walks).

Two reasons why Dyson should not be benched.

@%*# . . . Think on your feet, Torey. Play to win.

And the Front Office needs to get a better bench.

Torey isn't at tonight's game but I assume he set the lineup? Our did he give up that duty tonight?

Vargas started at 2B with Marte moving to CF to replace Dyson vs. a lefty. So it is a continuation of Torey's lineup.

Marte with a high flyout to start the game. Then Vargas, who went 0-4 in his last game . . . . . . . .

OK, he hit a HR and it's 1-0 D-backs. I'm glad I shamed him into doing something. LOL. :D

It's still all-or-nothing. That isn't going to win many games. We'll see about this one.

And with one out in the bottom of the 1st, Rockin' Robbie
gives up a 2-run homer and the Giants lead 2-1.

What has happened to Robbie Ray? He was on the verge
of being a 1-a pitcher to Greinke and his heir apparent to
take over if Greinke were to be traded.

Not any more!

And following the 2-run HR, Robbie has runners on 1st &
2nd with two out. And Robbie leaves them stranded.

But he made 27 pitches in the first inning, following 29
in the first inning of his last start. If he doesn't turn
things around, he won't be around too long again.

Marte with a clutch 2-out single to tie the game.

And Vargas comes through again. Good for him.

Singles in the go-ahead run. Runners on 1st and
3rd again. No pitchers battle tonight.

Escobar fouls one off his knee. But he is staying
in. Strike out to end the top of the 2nd.

Robbie Ray with a 2-out bases loaded 2-run single in the 3rd,
the D-backs lead 5-2 and the Giants with a pitching change.

Posting only when runs score (on either side), I'm getting
mini-exercise between my rocker-recliner and desktop, with
seven runs in the game during the first three innings. :)

Walker walks to load the bases, then Ahmed walks in a run
and it's 6-2 D-backs with one out. Patient at-bats.

Another Giants pitching change. It's the 4th inning.

And Tim Locastro with a 2-out 2-run single. 8-2.

Hey guys, save some of those runs for the next two games. :)

Adam Jones with a 3-run HR to center field. He's 4-for-4.

11-2. 14 hits so far for the D-backs. They had a total of 16 hits
during their 3-game series in San Diego. And they just picked up
their 15th hit of the game.

D-backs hitters doing a great job but, wow, Giants pitchers suck!
Robbie Ray retired 9 straight coming into the bottom of the 5th.

What position player will we have pitching tonight? :)

Instead of hitting into the shift, Vargas pokes one down
the open left side for another hit.

I will never again criticize Ildemar for his weak hitting.

And Escobar drives a 3-run HR into McCovey Cove. 14-2.

Their 17th hit of the game. Now more than the 3-game
series in San Diego.

Tomorrow's game is a day game, BTW, as is Sunday's.
The original schedule shows TBD for tomorrow.

'Sorry, but I'm going to be watching the Mercury's
opening game on ABC at 12:30. Go, DeWanna!

The pitch that hit him (second time this game) was about an inch off the plate.

Talk about crowding home plate.
There’s no rule that requires you to try and avoid inside pitches.

True! My observation was that the pitch was just off the strike zone. Pitches that have been called strikes a lot.
Oh yeah, but it is kind of a dubious talent. The kind of thing that really pusses you off when the other team does it.

Robbie puts two runners on base and comes out with one out in the 6th.

His final line is 5 1/3 innings, 2 runs (1HR), 5 hits, 9 strikeouts & 2 walks.

Andriese in to pitch. Swihart replaces Jones in RF on a double switch.

I hope that acting Manager Jerry Narron gets the rookie 1B Kevin Cron,
just called up, into the game for an at-bat. Torey made it a point to
say that he is not here to replace Christian Walker (who has struck
out four times so far tonight). I feel for him, but someone has to
take a proactive approach to his problems.

Torey is missing one game for his son's graduation.

And Godley is throwing in the bullpen. 12-run lead.

Yeah, that should be safe.

And Tim Lecastro has been hit by the pitch for the 3rd time tonight.

That's eight times in the Majors and seven times in the Minors this year.

Steve and BB are cracking up over it.

As I posted, it looks so obvious that he is not giving the pitcher an inch
inside the strike zone. A 1-pitch walk. 'Sure helps the OBP.

And an error leads to another D-backs run. 15-2 with 2 outs in the 7th.

My goodness. Marte with a 3-run HR. 18-2. 20 hits. That's the 3rd
3-run homer of the game out of four.

This fun! As long as we don't lose the next two 3-2.

Kevin Cron is in the on-deck circle to pinch hit, but the inning ends
and he takes over at 1B. Godley in to pitch the 7th garbage time.

Kevin Kron gets his first Major League at-bat. He was hitting .331 with 29 HR and 62 RBI
in a partial season at Reno, where his Dad is Manager. His brother plays in the Majors.

After just missing a home run in foul territory, he struck out. Welcome to the Big's.

BTW, every spot in the D-backs order has at least one run scored.

And we go to the bottom of the 8th.

Godley hits a batter. Then underhands a comebacker to 1B for the 3rd out.

And Lecastro leads off the 9th with 3 HBP so far. 'Think the Giants will
retaliate? Nope, he hits a popup and won't get his 4th HBP.

That's too bad. Would have set an all-time MLB record.

So the D-backs use a non-pitcher for the 7th, 8th & 9th -- Godley,
to wrap it up. He gives up a 2-out double to the Panda in the 9th,
trying to end the game. And he gets a 3-inning 18-2 save.

'Sorry, I couldn't let that go by.
